FIRST PITCH
Long Beach State opens Big West competition this weekend when the Dirtbags travel to UC Irvine.

Friday's series opener starts at 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday's games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ESPN+ will stream all three games.

SCOUTING THE ANTEATERS
UC Irvine begins the week ranked 18th in the Baseball America Top 25 and 25th in the USA TODAY Sports Baseball Coaches Top 25. The Anteaters are 9-3 after Tuesday night's 12-3 victory at San Diego.
 
UC Irvine began the week 23rd in Division I in scoring, averaging 9.4 runs per game.

Jacob McCombs is hitting a club-high .463. He is tied with Chase Call for the team lead in home runs with four and RBI with 18.

Danny Suarez is the probable starter for UCI on Friday night. He is 0-0 after striking out 12 in a no-decision last Friday night and has 18 strikeouts in 11 innings this season.

Jack Ross is scheduled to start on Saturday. He is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA in three starts this season and has struck out 11 in 12.2 innings.

Trevor Hansen has started three times in 2025, going 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA. He has struck out 13 and walked five in 13.1 innings.

Long Beach State and UC Irvine are playing for the 147th, 148th, and 149th times, with the Anteaters leading the all-time series 79-66-1.

FIVE IN A ROW OVER 2000
Long Beach State enjoyed tremendous support on opening weekend. The Dirtbags drew 1,842 in game one.

Over 2,000 Long Beach State fans came for the Saturday and Sunday games against Northwestern. On Saturday, 2,055 fans came through the turnstiles, while the Bark in the Park crowd numbered 2,123 on Sunday.

The 2,000 streak continued during the Michigan series. The opener featured an attendance of 2,367. The middle game had 2,320 before the series wrapped up, with the biggest crowd of the season so far, 2,465.  

Long Beach State leads the Big West in average attendance (2,199) and is currently 33rd in Division I in this category.

Since 2000, the Dirtbags have played in front of at least 2000 fans 120 times.
