Name, Image, and Likeness, or "NIL," refers to a student-athlete's ability to earn compensation from third parties for the use of the student-athlete’s name, image or likeness. Compensation must be in exchange for work actually performed between the student-athlete and the third party (quid pro quo).

Q: Can I partner with entire teams?
A: Yes, third party providers can partner with as many student-athletes as they would like. Please check out the Long Beach Local Exchange to offer a NIL deal to any of our student-athletes.

A: Yes, third party providers can partner with as many student-athletes as they would like. Please check out the Long Beach Local Exchange to offer a NIL deal to any of our student-athletes.
Q: I am a donor, and I would like to support Beach student-athlete NIL, where do I start?
- Register with the Long Beach Local Exchange to connect with our student-athletes and pitch them a deal. Please keep in mind that a NIL deal must require the student-athlete to perform some type of action for them to be permitted to accept any payment or trade.

Q: What are collectives and is it permissible to support them?
A: Yes, it is permissible to support collectives. The NCAA defines collectives as “NIL Entities”, which are third party providers/external organization to the LBSU athletic department whose sole purpose is support student-athletes in their NIL initiatives. Collective primarily focus on fundraising, community service, and group licensing deals.
Q: What types of promotions are prohibited?
A: Student-Athletes may not enter a NIL contract to receive compensation for the promotion or endorsement of any product or service that violated NCAA legislation. This includes but is not limited to the following:

- Any product or service that conflicts with LBSU, the Big West Conference and the NCAA mission and values.
- Any product or service that adversely reflects on the University or the Athletics department
Q: Are international student-athletes permitted to participate in NIL deals?
A: Yes, with restrictions. Engaging in NIL activities is subject to rules and regulations that are associated to the student’s particular visa status. For international students who would like to get involved in their NIL, please contact the NIL staff and/or the LBSU Center for International education (CIE).
