Freshman right-hander Jason Gerfers added national honors after another dominant week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Jason Gerfers added national recognition to his breakout freshman season after being named to Baseball America's Week 6 National Team of the Week following his complete-game win over Cal State Bakersfield.
The freshman right-hander from Calimesa earned the honor after striking out a career-high 12 batters across nine innings in Long Beach State's 5-1 road victory, allowing just four hits and one run while recording his second complete game of the season.
That outing also secured back-to-back Big West Pitcher of the Week honors, making Gerfers the first Dirtbag to win consecutive weekly pitching awards since 2022.
In six starts and seven appearances during his first collegiate season, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound freshman owns a 3.28 ERA with a 2-1 record and 34 strikeouts across 35.2 innings. He currently ranks sixth in the conference in earned run average and seventh in innings pitched while holding opponents to a .192 batting average.
