THIS WEEK
Long Beach State competes in the 31st Challenge Cup this Friday at UC Irvine. Joining LBSU in the field are Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara. The Challenge Cup was established in 1993 and ran consecutively through 2019 before taking a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

The Beach men have won the 24 of the previous Challenge Cup competitions including the last in a row. The Long Beach State women are looking for their fourth consecutive Challenge Cup title and have won 12 of the previous 30 meets.

JANKANS NAMED BIG WEST FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Long Beach State's Kyle Jankans was selected Big West Field Athlete of the Week on Mar. 11. Jankans won the high jump at the Beach Opener on Mar. 8. The grad student tied Vincent Calhoun (2017) and John Temidara (2004) for the second-highest high jump in school history as he cleared 7-3 to win the event. LBSU legend Dwight Stones is the school record holder at 7-7 1/4. His 7-3 performance tops Division I as the action begins this week. The second-best is 6-11 by two others, including teammate TJ Funches.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams recorded seven individual and three relay race victories on the final day of the Beach Opener Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
