Beach Men Capture Big West 4x100 Title, Set Conference Record During Championship Finale

Long Beach State closed the Big West Championships with program records, titles and podium finishes Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State wrapped up competition at the Big West Track and Field Championships Saturday at Jack Rose Track with a conference-record performance in the men's 4x100 relay and multiple podium finishes on the final day of competition.
The Beach men finished third overall with 114 points, while the women placed fifth with 69 points.
MEN
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Dre Johnson, Tristyn Flores, Vincent Jones and Trey Sheron captured the conference title with a time of 39.33, setting a new Big West Championship record and recording the second-fastest mark in program history. The previous championship record of 39.50 had stood since 1999.
Flores added another podium finish in the men's 100 meters, placing third in 10.08. The mark ranks second in program history behind his own school record of 10.05 set last season. Flores later placed fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 20.89, which ranks fifth in program history.
Jaden Dasher competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished second in 50.56, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Ryan Gregory added a fifth-place finish in the same event at 52.46.
Matthew Bender led the Beach in the javelin with a runner-up finish after throwing 64.83m (212 feet, 8 inches). Cytres Vives scored points with a seventh-place finish at 61.25m (200-11), while Gregory threw 56.03m (183-10) and Milo Orona recorded a mark of 55.34m (181-6).
VJ Vanderlipe earned second place in the pole vault after clearing 5.24m (17-2 ¼).
In the men's 400 meters, Vincent Jones placed fourth with a time of 47.28. Cameron Simmons added a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.30.
The Beach also scored in the men's 4x400 relay as Dasher, Adren Parker, Cameron Rhone, Jones, Sheron, Flores and Gregory combined to place third in 3:10.84.
In distance events, Cameron Gill ran 14:36.40 in the 5,000 meters, while Miles Jones finished in 15:15.70.
Diego Herrera-Vendrell recorded a mark of 41.59m (136-5) in the discus throw.
WOMEN
Rori Denness-Lamont captured the Big West title in the women's javelin with a throw of 51.94m (170-5), the third-best mark in program history. Kyra Miedecke placed sixth with a throw of 45.14m (148-1), moving into 10th all-time in school history. Mai Ricks added a mark of 39.00m (127-11).
Jonelle Scott earned runner-up honors in the pole vault after clearing 4.07m (13-4 ¼), tying for the second-best mark in program history. Grace Stoddart tied for the eighth-best mark in school history after clearing 3.92m (12-10 ¼) to place fifth.
Trinity Barnett recorded two podium finishes on the track, placing second in the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.42 and third in the 200 meters in 23.40. Both marks rank third in program history.
Zamaria Mack placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.61 and later ran 1:00.81 in the 400-meter hurdles.
The women's 4x100 relay team of Daryana Hall, Barnett, Mack, Jaliyah Davis and Bree Hollins placed seventh in 45.55.
In the women's 4x400 relay, Hollins, Mack, Barnett, Milani Bell, Davis and Hall combined to run 3:44.64.
Daneira Pellum scored in the triple jump with a sixth-place finish after recording a mark of 11.95m (39-2 ½).
In the discus, Ricks threw 46.65m (153-0) while Sammy Chang recorded a mark of 46.43m (152-4).
Alyssa Tapanes led the Beach in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 17:49.11. Brooke Willoughby followed in 18:24.42 and Darcy Ray finished in 18:47.30.
Long Beach State will await selections for the NCAA West Regional, hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., from May 27-30. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.
