Gregory Sets School Record, Earns First Team All-America Honor In Decathlon

Ryan Gregory reset his school record and earned first team All-America honors Thursday.
EUGENE, Ore. -- Ryan Gregory capped off the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a record-setting performance Thursday, finishing fourth overall in the men's decathlon at Hayward Field.

The senior totaled 8,001 points to reset his own Long Beach State school record of 7,898 points set last season, earning first team All-America honors in the decathlon. He became the fifth Beach athlete to earn All-America recognition in the event and the first Long Beach State decathlete to earn first team honors since 2021.
After sitting 10th following the opening day with 4,007 points, Gregory delivered a strong second day by finishing inside the top 10 in all five events.

Gregory opened the day with a personal-best performance in the 110-meter hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 14.45 to earn 917 points. He followed with another personal record in the discus, throwing 43.02m (141-2) to finish fifth and collect 726 points.

In the pole vault, Gregory tied for fourth after clearing 4.81m (15-9 ¼), scoring 852 points. He added 678 points in the javelin after recording a mark of 55.98m (183-8) on his third and final attempt, finishing seventh in the event.

Gregory closed the competition with a personal-best time of 4:18.57 in the 1,500 meters, placing second in the event and securing his second straight All-America honor in the decathlon.

With his fourth-place finish, Gregory recorded the second-highest decathlon finish in Long Beach State history. The only higher finish came in 2006, when Chris Richardson placed third overall.
