Evans-Glynn Earns All-America Honor, Gregory Sits 10th In Decathlon

Ryan Gregory sits 10th in the decathlon after five events.
EUGENE, Ore. -- Steven Evans-Glynn earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors in the men's long jump, while Ryan Gregory opened competition in the decathlon Wednesday at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.
Gregory started the decathlon with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters, running 10.77 to score 912 points. He followed with a ninth-place finish in the long jump, recording a mark of 7.20m (23 feet, 7 ½ inches) for 862 points.
In the shot put, Gregory registered a throw of 12.33m (40-5 ½) to place 24th and earn 626 points. He bounced back in the high jump, clearing 1.95m (6-4 ¾) to finish 13th and add 758 points before concluding the day with an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters in 49.25 for 849 points.
After five events, Gregory sits 10th overall in the decathlon standings with 4,007 points.
Steven Evans-Glynn earned honorable mention All-America honors in the men's long jump, placing 18th overall with a mark of 7.43m (24-1).
The Beach men's 4x100-meter relay team of Dre Johnson, Trey Sheron, Vincent Jones and Tristyn Flores also took to the track Wednesday. Long Beach State did not finish the race and did not advance to Friday's final round.
Gregory concludes the decathlon Thursday beginning with the 110-meter hurdles at 10:45 a.m. The remaining events include the discus, pole vault and javelin before the competition concludes with the 1,500 meters at 7:43 p.m.Â
