Beach Set To Host Big West Championships This Weekend

After the multis championship, the Beach men are first in team scoring.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State returns home this weekend to host the Big West Track and Field Championships at Jack Rose Track following a strong showing at the conference multis championships last weekend. Friday's competition begins with field events at 10:30 a.m. and track events at 1 p.m., while Saturday's championships open with field events at 10 a.m. and track finals at 2 p.m.

BIG WEST MULTIS RECAP
Ryan Gregory captured the Big West decathlon title last weekend with 7,816 points, the second-best score in program history behind his own school record of 7,898 set last season. Milo Orona added a fourth-place finish with 6,881 points across the two-day competition.

Gregory's score currently ranks sixth in Division I this season. The top 24 multis scores nationally advance to the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in June at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The decathlon results also pushed Long Beach State into the team lead entering the conference championships with 15 points.

BIG WEST RANKINGS
Long Beach State enters the weekend with several conference-leading performances across the men's and women's squads.

On the women's side, Trinity Barnett ranks first in the 200 meters with a time of 23.23. Giszelle Hrehor leads the conference in the hammer throw at 60.27m (197 feet, 9 inches), while Rori Denness-Lamont tops the javelin standings with a mark of 53.89m (176-10).

For the men, the 4x100 relay team of Dre Johnson, Tristyn Flores, Vincent Jones and Trey Sheron hold the top conference time this season (38.93). Steven Evans-Glynn also enters the championships ranked first in the long jump with a mark of 7.67m (25-2), while Gregory sits atop the decathlon standings (7816) following his conference title performance.

TEAM RANKINGS
In this week's USTFCCCA TFRI Outdoor Checkpoint rankings, the Long Beach State men are ranked 56th nationally and 10th in the West Region. The Beach men also sit third in the Big West Team TFRI standings entering the championship meet.

The Long Beach State women are ranked 20th in the West Regional TFRI rankings and seventh in the Big West Team TFRI standings. In the Event Squad Summary, the Beach women rank 20th nationally in the hammer throw and 25th in the triple jump.
