Evans-Glynn Wins Long Jump Title As Beach Men Sit In Second Place After Day One

Long Beach State earned three podium finishes during Friday’s opening day at Jack Rose Track.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Steven Evans-Glynn's conference title in the men's long jump highlighted day one action for Long Beach State at the Big West Track and Field Championships Friday at Jack Rose Track.
MEN
Evans-Glynn captured the Big West long jump title with a personal-record mark of 7.83m (25 feet, 8 ¼ inches) on his third attempt. The mark ties for seventh all-time in program history.
Jaylon Wells added an All-Conference finish in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 18.24m (59-10 ¼).
Tyler Knowles and Eman Goodloe both competed in the hammer throw. Knowles placed fourth with a throw of 63.17m (207-3) on his fifth attempt, while Goodloe finished fifth at 61.68m (202-4) on his final throw.
Miguel Orozco added an eighth-place finish after recording a mark of 7.26m (23-10). Ryan Gregory posted a mark of 6.75m (22-1 ¾), while Quinten Flowers jumped 6.61m (21-8 ¼).
In the high jump, Evans-Glynn finished seventh after clearing a personal-record 1.99m (6-6 ¼), while Cytres Vives placed eighth with the same height.
On the track, Cameron Gill scored in the 3000-meter steeplechase with an eighth-place finish in 9:08.58.
Miles Jones advanced to Saturday's final in the 1500 meters after running 3:58.92 in the preliminaries.
In the sprint prelims, Trey Sheron and Tristyn Flores both qualified for the finals in the 100 meters. Sheron posted the second-fastest qualifying time at 10.19, while Flores was third in 10.28.
Sheron also advanced in the 200 meters with the third-fastest preliminary time of 20.54. Flores qualified seventh in 20.71.
Vincent Jones moved on to Saturday's 400-meter final after running 47.25 in the prelims. Jaden Dasher qualified second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.35, while Gregory advanced fifth in 52.83.
Cameron Simmons narrowly qualified for the 110-meter hurdles final after placing ninth in 14.59.
The Beach men sit in second place with 47 points, trailing Cal Poly's 72.
WOMEN
Giszelle Hrehor earned All-Conference honors in the hammer throw after placing second with a mark of 57.36m (188-2) on her fifth attempt.
Amanda Javellana turned in a personal-record throw of 55.91m (183-5) to finish fourth in the hammer throw, while Abigail Gavrilovic placed 13th at 50.53m (165-9).
Mai Ricks scored in the shot put with a fifth-place finish after recording a mark of 14.71m (48-3 ¼) on her opening attempt. The throw moved Ricks into 10th place in program history.
In the women's 3000-meter steeplechase, Alyssa Tapanes placed ninth with a time of 11:09.01.
Trinity Barnett led the Beach in the sprint preliminaries, posting the fastest qualifying time in the 100 meters at 11.33. Barnett also qualified fourth in the 200 meters after running 23.43.
Zamaria Mack advanced to Saturday's final in the 100-meter hurdles with the eighth-fastest qualifying time of 13.86. Mack later recorded a personal-best 59.93 in the 400-meter hurdles prelims, moving into the program's all-time top 10, while qualifying fourth overall.
Marikay Schwab led the Beach in the women's 10,000 meters, placing 15th in 38:06.36. Brooke Willoughby ran 39:12.13, while Nataly Toledo finished in 39:59.92.
Daneira Pellum competed in the long jump and recorded a mark of 5.53m (18-1 ¾).
The Beach women are fifth with 17 points, while UC Irvine leads the team standings with 86.5 points.
