Norfles Leads LBSU On Day One Of Beach Opener

Micah Norfles recorded the fifth longest hammer throw in school history
LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the 2025 outdoor season Friday as LBSU hosted the first day of the Beach Opener. Two events were held: the men's and women's hammer throw and the men's and women's javelin.
MEN
Micah Norfles recorded the fifth-longest hammer throw in history, 217-0, on his sixth and final attempt of the competition. Norfles surpassed 200 feet on three of his six throws as he found the podium in third.
Canaan Wharry joined Norfles in the finals, finishing eighth (189-3).
In the javelin, Elliott Payne recorded a toss of 199-8 to finish fifth in his first javelin competition after an injury since the 2023 Beach Opener.
Ryan Gregory followed Payne in sixth (186-0), while Milo Orona came in eighth (183-7).
WOMEN
Giszelle Hrehor finished fourth in the hammer throw, posting a toss of 188-8. Faitalia Ah-Fook, a senior, recorded a career-best 168-4 to place seventh.
Senior Jenelle Hurley threw the javelin a career-best 127-8 to finish seventh.
The Beach Opener concludes Saturday, with all the events beginning at 10 a.m.
