LBSU Wins 10 Times On Final Day Of Beach Opener

The Beach women win four individual; The Beach men win three
LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams recorded seven individual and three relay race victories on the final day of the Beach Opener Saturday at Jack Rose Track.
WOMEN
The Beach women won four individual events and one relay.
Claudine Raud-Gumiel won the 100m hurdles by running the sixth-fastest time in school history, 13.63.
Sofia Lavreshina won the 200m by posting the seventh-fastest time in school history, 23.92. She was the runner-up in the 100m, running the event for the first time at LBSU at 11.89.
Trinity Barnett won the 400m, speeding on the track to a time of 55.46.
Jonelle Scott tied with Cal Poly Pomona's Isabelle Carreon for the pole vault title. The duo both went 12-4 3/4. Scott won the jump off for the individual title.
The 4x100m relay of Daryana Hall, Trinity Barnett, Rahni Turner, and Lavreshina took home top honors, winning the race in 45.44.
Jenelle Hurley and Tori Plummer both posted a new career-high in the high jump, 5-7 1/4. Hurley was awarded second place as she cleared the height in fewer attempts. Plummer was third.
Plummer tied her career-best in the 100m hurdles, going 14.93 to finish eighth. She reset her career-best in the long jump, going 17-9, which gave her 15th.
Maren Butler's first start for Long Beach State in the discus proved successful, as she was the runner-up. Butler earned second by throwing 164-2 on her sixth and final attempt, resulting in the eighth-longest throw in school history. Butler returned in the shot, earning another second place. Her 47-9 1/4 is the 10th longest in school history.
Isela Ochoa placed fourth in her inaugural outing for the Beach in the 100m hurdles (14.20). She returned to finish third in the 400m hurdles (1:03.14).
Alyssa Tapanes ran a career-best fourth in the 1500m, posting a time of 4:47.39.
Brandee Hollins, Milani Bell, Ochoa, and Jaliyah Davis were second, running 3:49.30.
LBSU's second 4x100m relay of Zariah Walker, Hollins, Tarynn Maroney, and Davis ran 47.12 to finish fourth.
KiiKii Brown surpassed 19 feet for the first time in the long jump, going 19-4 1/4 for a new career-best and a fifth-place showing. Tayah DeSousa (18-3 3/4) was seventh in the long jump.
Turner (12.01) and Hall (12.19) were fifth and sixth respectively in the 100m. Hall came in eighth in the 200m (24.88).
Grace Stoddart (11-10 3/4) and Sophie Garrou (11-5) placed fifth and sixth in the pole vault. Charlotte O'Connor (11-5) was ninth in the pole vault.
MEN
The Long Beach State was victorious in three individual events, and both relays were conducted.
Kyle Jankans tied Vincent Calhoun (2017) and John Temidara (2004) for the second-highest high jump in school history as he cleared 7-3 to win the event. LBSU legend Dwight Stones is the school record holder at 7-7 1/4.
Ethan Florez led a 1-2 for the Beach in the 800m, winning the race by running 1:54.85. Brandon Day was the runner-up at 1:56.53.
Jaylon Wells threw the shot a career-best 57-0 1/4 to win the event.
The 4x100m squad of Moray Steward, Omri Shiff, Harness, and Tristyn Flores came out blistering, running the fourth-fastest time in school history, 39.93 to win the event.
The winning 4x400m relay comprised Patrick Henderson, Vincent Jones, Flores, and Omri Shiff. The team ran 3:11.11.
Novye' James finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 50-1 1/4. Tola Spencer (46-10 3/4) was eighth in the triple jump.
Canaan Wharry reset his career-best in the discus to 188-0 to earn second place.
Aidan Turner reset his outdoor-best in the pole vault as he went 16-2. Glen Qualye also cleared 16-2. Turner was awarded fourth as he cleared the height in fewer attempts. Turner also registered an eighth-place finish in the 200m (21.55).
TJ Funches (6-11) finished second, while Cytres Vives was fourth in the high jump (6-7).
Malik Harness was seventh 100m for the Beach at 10.59. Coming back to run in the 200m later in the meet, Harness finished fifth (21.38).
The 4x400m "B" relay of Harness, Anthony Coleman, Moray Steward, and Ryan Rivituso turned in a sixth-place showing (3:18.18).
UP NEXT
Long Beach State will compete in the Challenge Cup next Friday. UC Irvine hosts. The field events begin at 1 p.m. The track events start at 3 p.m.
