
LBSU Track & Field Teams 4-Peat As Challenge Cup Champions

Flores sets school record in 100m; wins three times
IRVINE, Calif.—The Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams four-peated as champions at the 31st Challenge Cup Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
The Beach men have won 25 of the previous Challenge Cup competitions, including the last four. The Long Beach State women won their fourth consecutive Challenge Cup title and won the meet 13 times since it was established in 1993.
MEN
The Beach won eight individual events and one relay to win the team title. Long Beach State scored 202 points, and UC Santa Barbara was second with 161.5 points.
Tristyn Flores broke the Long Beach State record in the 100m by running 10.26. The previous mark of 10.29 was run by Brent Gray in 2007. Flores returned later in the meet to take home the 200m title by going 20.98. Flores was part of the 4x100m relay that opened the meet by winning in 40.34. Omri Shiff, Moray Steward, and Malik Harness also joined Flores on the relay.
Vincent Jones won the 400m in a time of 48.08.
Cameron Gill was the 3000m winner, as he ran 8:40.92.
Ryan Gregory earned the 400m hurdles title, going 52.91.
Cyprus Rice cleared 16-2 in the pole vault to win the event.
Canaan Wharry was the discus winner, posting a throw of 184-1.
Micah Norfles was the hammer winner, throwing 210-6.
WOMEN
Winning for the fourth year in a row didn't come easy for the Beach. Long Beach State needed a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay to clinch the team title. LBSU scored 165.5 points, edging UC Irvine by 2.5 points. The Beach won six individual events and used their depth, taking nine second and third-place finishes.
Sofia Lavreshina was victorious in two events. She earned the 400m title by running 54.59. Lavreshina returned to win the 200m in a time of 24.43. Lavreshina anchored the 4x100m relay that finished third (46.86). She ran the third leg on the 4x400m relay (3:45.97) and earned second place.
Claudine Raud-Gumiel won the 100m hurdles in the sixth-fastest time in school history, 13:55.
Mackenzie Hack took the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:05.85, the seventh quickest performance in school history.
Faitalia Ah-Fook won the hammer throw with a toss of 167-8.
Jonelle Scott was the pole vault winner, clearing 12-4 3/4 for the second week in a row.
Long Beach State returns to action next weekend. A portion of the squad will enter the Oregon Preview on Friday and Saturday, while the remainder will enter USC's Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational.
