LBSU Opens Competition at USC and Oregon

Wharry goes second and fifth for the Beach Men
LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams opened a weekend action Friday at the USC's Ron & Sharlene Allice Trojan Invitational and the Oregon Preview.

In the men's discus, Canaan Wharry finished after tying his career-best, 188-0, on his fifth of six attempts in the competition. Tyler Knowles recorded a career-best 155-10 on his opening attempt to earn eighth place.
In the women's discus, Maren Butler finished 10th (138-3), while Sammy Chang threw 135-3 on her first attempt of the preliminaries to place 12th.
The men's hammer saw Micah Norfles become the runner-up when he posted a throw of 204-3 with his fifth attempt. Wharry reset his career-best to 195-5 as he finished third. Knowles earned fifth as he reset his career-best to 188-0. Newcomer Eman Goodloe upped his season-best to 164-1 as Goodloe came in seventh. Jaylon Wells increased his career-best to 163-3 as he took eighth.
The day concluded with the women's hammer, where Giszelle Hrehor tied her career-best, 189-9, to come in sixth. Her mark is the sixth longest in school history. Faitalia Ah-Fook lifted her career-best to 172-4 with her ninth-place performance. Chang was 17th (107-8).
OREGON PREVIEW
Kendra Daniels and Tori Plummer were the LBSU entries on Friday at the Oregon Preview as the duo competed in the high jump. Daniels was sixth, clearing 5-3. Plummer tied for seventh with Sonoma State's Amber Walker after going 5-1.
On Saturday, Long Beach State resumes competition at USC, this time on campus at the Loker Track Stadium beginning at 11 a.m.
The action begins at the Oregon Preview at 11:30 a.m. with the field events, and the running events begin at 2:05 p.m.
