Men’s Water Polo Ends The Triton Invitational With Two Wins

Freshman Corbin Stanley scored five goals in the win against Redlands.
Long Beach State got off to a quick start in the first game of the day with Sophomore Marc Frigola scoring the first goal of the day for the Beach. Senior Bruno Chiappini opened the lead to three with two goals in the quarter. Redshirt Freshman Michael Soybel scored the last one of the quarter and the Beach ended the first up 6-1. Soybel scored two more to open the second quarter and complete his hat-trick. The Beach went to halftime up 13-4. At the third quarter, Bucknell scored three in a row to cut the lead but the Beach was able to keep the difference and close the game 24-12.
Eleven Beach players scored with Keegan Moore and Bruno Chiappini leading the team with four goals each. Michael Soybel scored his first hat-trick, as well as Marc Frigola. Evan Cain, Alec Johnson and Jason O'Donnell all scored two goals to help the Beach on the win. Riley Catino, Alex Makshanoff, Corbin Stanley and Itai Roth completed the scoresheet.
Long Beach State's second win of the day was against Redlands where they ended winning 17-5. Centers Alec Johnson and Corbin Stanley got things started for the Beach with two quick goals. Senior Aaron Wilson had a great first quarter blocking a penalty shot and keeping the Beach in the lead, 4-2. Stanley would come in the board four more times to finish with a career high of five goals. Senior Evan Cain recorded a hat-trick, and Alec Johnson and Kostantinos Kapragkos scored a pair of goals on the win. Bruno Chiappini, Caleb Francisco, Marc Frigola and Harper Stewart, Itai Roth also were on the board in the win.
The Beach now prepares for the home opener next weekend, where they will face a triple header on Saturday playing Westcliff at 11:30 a.m., Biola at 2:30 p.m. and closing the day with Brown at 6 p.m. On Sunday they will host Stanford at Noon in a busy weekend at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
