Gabi Acosta Named Big West Player Of The Year; Seven Players Named All-Big West

Acosta repeats his honors from the 2024 season going back-to-back Player of the Year.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Big West announced the 2025 Men's Water Polo awards on Friday afternoon, with sophomore Gabi Acosta landing Player of the Year, repeating his 2024 honors, while six other Long Beach players earned selections to all teams.

Spanish phenom Gabi Acosta repeated his honors from his freshman year, being named Big West Player of the Year, as well as a First Team All-Big West selection. Acosta led the Beach and the league with 68 goals scored in the year, scoring in 24 games of the 25 played. The sophomore center earned 34 ejections, grabbed 17 steals, and dished six assists in the year to lead Long Beach State to Regular Season Big West Champions and to the Championship final for the second year in a row.

Junior Caleb Francisco was named for the second year to the First Team All-Big West after another successful season. Francisco was second on the team with 59 goals and tied the program record in goals scored after a career-high eight goals against No. 5 Fordham. The attacker was a key piece of the Beach defense, adding 10 field blocks in the year.

For the first time in his career, graduate Jason O'Donnell earned his first Big West honors, landing a Second Team All-Big West selection. O'Donnell was one of the key pieces of the Beach defense with a league-high 16 field blocks and added 17 goals, 17 steals, and 10 assists in his final season for Long Beach State.

Three players earned Honorable Mention, with Joe Jenness and brothers Corbin and Toring Stanley representing LBSU. This is Jenness' first career honor, as the sophomore stepped into the starting role in the cage, recording 129 saves and playing 16 games with nine starts. The sophomore also added 15 steals and four assists.

The Stanley brothers were an offensive force for Long Beach State, with each scoring 31 goals in the season. Corbin Stanley led the team with 40 earned ejections and added 10 field blocks, while Toring Stanley had a team-high 28 assists.

Lastly, freshman Zalán Nagy earned All-Big West Freshman Team honors after an impactful first year. Nagy scored 29 goals, fourth on the team, dished 16 assists, and grabbed 13 steals while adding five field blocks.

No. 8 Long Beach State (17-9) closed a successful year with the Big West Regular Season title while reaching the Championship finals for the second year in a row.
