MONTGOMERY NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Long Beach State's Kellan Montgomery was named Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 26. This is the first time that Montgomery has earned the honor. Montgomery threw seven innings in the Dirtbags 4-1 victory over Omaha on Feb. 25. The sophomore allowed four hits, one unearned run, and struck out seven as Long Beach State completed a sweep of the Mavs. The sophomore righty did not give up a walk, throwing 93 pitches and 65 for strikes. Montgomery has struck out 12 in two starts that have comprised his 12 innings of work this season. He currently has a 0.75 ERA.

BEST 6-GAME START

After sweeping Omaha Feb. 23-25, Long Beach State is unbeaten/undefeated after six games for the first time since 1989, when the Dirtbags won their first 18 games of the season.

LBSU GETS OFF TO A STRONG STRIKEOUT START
The Long Beach State pitching staff got off to a strong strikeout start against Washington. Led by CJ Hood, who had eight, the Dirtbags struck out 15 in the opener versus the Huskies. In game two, Myles Patton recorded 10 of the 13 strikeouts that Long Beach State put up. During game three's 17-inning contest, Long Beach State's eight pitchers charted 12 strikeouts, with Kellan Montgomery leading the way with five.

Week two saw the Dirtbags strike out 13 in the 10-inning series opener against Omaha. In game two, Patton recorded seven of the 12 LBSU strikeouts in the 6-0 shutout victory over the Mavs. The weekend concluded with 10 strikeouts in the 4-1 finale victory against Omaha. Seven came from Montgomery. The Dirtbags' pitching staff have struck out 75 in 63 innings this season while only walking 23. Long Beach State begins the week 23rd in Division I in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.26) and 47th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.7). Patton begins the week 24th in D-1 in strikeouts (17), while Hood is 69th (24). Hood is 10th in strikeouts per nine innings (18.0), while Patton is 67th (14.34). Riding the wave of the strikeouts, the pitching staff is ninth in the Division in WHIP (1.02), 12th in hits allowed per nine innings (5.86), and 12th in earned run average (2.43).

RUNNING THE BASES
Long Beach State has been aggressive on the bases this season. The Dirtbags have stolen 16 bases in 20 attempts. LBSU stole five bases (in seven attempts) against Omaha on Feb. 24, marking the first time since May 1, 2016, that Long Beach State stole at least five bases in a game.

As a team, the Dirtbags are 13th in Division I in stolen bases per game (2.67) and 27th in Division I in stolen bases.
