Anne de Kleer scores on five-meter penalty shot to send game into overtime.
Davis, Calif. — With two seconds remaining in the fourth period, trailing by one goal, Mariah Walker drew an Aggies' foul to give Long Beach State a five-meter penalty shot.
Anne de Kleer lined up the shot and skipped the throw to the back of the cage to tie the game 9-9 and send the contest into overtime after UC Davis' final shot was missed as time expired.
In the sudden victory period, the Aggies' Noelle Wjinbelt scored on a five-meter penalty shot to give No. 11 UC Davis the 10-9 victory Friday night at Schaal Aquatics Center.
It was a back-and-forth contest as UC Davis (7-4, 2-1) took an early 2-0 lead in the first period but Anne de Kleer tied the game up herself with back-to-back goals.
After the Aggies took a 3-2 lead, Sarah Barker tied the game on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 31 seconds remaining in the game.
Davis went on a 2-0 run to take a 5-3 lead, but Elena Kotanchyan cut the Beach's deficit to 5-4 at halftime.Kotanchyan then tied the game twice in the third quarter, but the Beach trailed 7-6 heading into the final period.
In the final period, Walker cut the Aggies' lead to 8-7 before de Kleer's penalty shot sent the game into overtime with the contest tied at 8-8.
In the cage, Inbar Geva had 15 saves for the Beach. Anne de Kleer and Kotanchyan each scored three goals, while Barker, Walker and Matafora-Adams scored on goal apiece.
Long Beach State (0-3, 0-2) will take UC Davis again on Sunday with the match starting at noon.
