No. 16 Long Beach State Can't Mount Comeback vs. No. 11 UC Davis

After taking an early lead, the Beach wasn't able to overcome a cold second half in the pool.
Davis, Calif. — Looking to bounce back from Friday's overtime thriller, the Long Beach State women's water polo team couldn't overcome a cold second half as the Beach fell to No. 11 UC Davis, 8-6 Sunday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center.
In a back-and-forth contest, the No. 16 Beach (0-4, 0-2) took an early 1-0 lead in the first period after Elena Kotanchyan found the back of the cage on a 6-on-5 power play,
After the Aggies (8-4, 2-1) tied the game at 1-1, Jamie Oberman scored as the Beach took a 2-1 lead after the first period.
The Aggies answered right back to tie the game at 2-2 in the first minute of the second quarter.
Long Beach State had an answer as Anne de Kleer gave the Beach a 3-2 lead with 4:56 remaining in the first half.
After UC Davis tied the game again, Gabriella Matafora-Adams scored with 14 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Aggies tied the game at 4-4 in the 3rd period after Emily Aikema found the back of the cage.
UC Davis continued their scoring run as they took a 6-4 lead early in the fourth period.
The Beach wasn't done fighting there as Kotanchyan and Mariah Walker each scored to tie the game at 6-6 with 4:33 remaining in the game.
That was it for LBSU as the Aggies scored two more times to take the victory.
The Beach will be back in action when they travel to Hawai'i next week.
