Women’s Water Polo Faces UC Santa Barbara On The Road Sunday

The Beach split on the opening weekend of Big West play.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 8 Long Beach State continues Big West play on the road, facing UC Santa Barbara for the first time this season on Sunday at 1 p.m., live on ESPN+.
The Beach (8-9, 1-1 Big West) split the opening weekend of conference play, defeating No. 14 UC Davis, 8-6, and falling to No. 6 Hawai'i, 9-7. Against the Aggies, freshman goalkeeper Polina Synytsia set a new program record for most saves in a single game with 22. Against UH, senior Lucy Miszewski led the offense with a hat trick, while Synytsia added eight saves on the day. Leading Long Beach State this season is senior Elisa Portillo with 40 goals and 29 assists. Miszewski ranks second with 34 goals, while junior Chiara Amoroso adds 29 in a consistent season. Synytsia has recorded 118 saves so far, while adding six steals and three assists.
UC Santa Barbara (1-13, 0-2 Big West) hosted Cal State Fullerton last weekend, falling short, 11-9, at home for their second conference game. The Gauchos are in a rebuilding season after graduating key players and have only defeated Biola so far, in their third game of the year. Leading UCSB is Cami Mras with 19 goals, while Isabel Valaika adds a team-high 17 assists. On defense, Keira Wall has recorded 49 saves and adds a team-high 16 steals.
