4/23/2019 9:37:00 PM | Baseball

Calvin Estrada had a pair of RBIs and Chris Jimenez scored twice out of the leadoff spot as Long Beach State erased a 2-0 deficit on the road to defeat Loyola Marymount, 4-2. The Dirtbags have now won three consecutive midweek games, all on the road.

LOS ANGELES – Long Beach State (8-30) fell into a 2-0 first-inning hole at LMU (24-16) on Tuesday night, but battled back for a 4-2 victory over the Lions at Page Stadium. It's the third consecutive midweek victory for the Dirtbags, with all three wins coming on the road.

Leadoff man Chris Jimenez was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice from the top of the order. Calvin Estrada had a pair of RBIs thanks to a game-tying two-run single in the third inning. Junior Jacob Hughey extended his hitting streak to eight games and collected an RBI as well. Sophomore Santino Rivera drove in the other run for the Dirtbags.

John Sheaks made his third start of the season and threw well, despite allowing the two first-inning runs. He covered three innings, allowing three hits and a walk, but all four of those baserunners came in the opening frame. LBSU used five pitchers on Tuesday night, and each of them collected exactly two strikeouts. Jonathan Carlos and Tyler Gums each threw two scoreless innings, Alfredo Ruiz got the first two outs of the eighth and Dylan Spacke got the final four outs of the game to pick up his third save of the season.

All four of Long Beach State's runs scored with two outs as the Dirtbags were more effective in driving in runners on Tuesday night. There were also four freshmen in the starting lineup, with Brennan Rozell making his first start in the outfield, playing left. Chase Luttrell was in center field, Tanner Carlson was at first base and Kaden Hogan started at shortstop. Riki DeSa also picked up a start at second base, doubling off the left field wall and scoring in the sixth.

The Dirtbags will be back in action this weekend at UC Davis, with the series opener scheduled for Friday at 2:30 p.m.
