Santino Rivera set a new career high with three hits and Aidan Malm reached base three times with a pair of doubles, but the Dirtbags suffered defeat in the series-opener at UC Davis on Friday afternoon.

DAVIS, Calif. – For the third game in a row, Long Beach State (8-31, 2-8 Big West) faced a first-inning deficit on Friday afternoon. The Dirtbags battled back, but couldn't catch up to hosts UC Davis (13-22, 4-9 Big West) in a 6-4 loss at Dobbins Stadium. Long Beach State stranded nine runners on base, including two in the ninth inning.

Sophomore Santino Rivera had a career-high three hits in the ballgame, and junior Aidan Malm reached base safely three times with two doubles and a walk. Laine Huffman delivered a pair of RBI groundouts, and Jacob Hughey collected his 20^th RBI of the season with a sacrifice fly, but he saw his season-best hitting streak snapped at eight games.

Lefty Adam Seminaris surrendered two runs in both the first and fourth innings, but battled to get through seven frames. Overall, he allowed four earned runs on nine hits with three walks and a strikeout.

The Dirtbags took the lead in the top of the first after a leadoff double by Chris Jimenez, who also drew a pair of walks out of the leadoff spot. He was brought home after a fly ball and a grounder to move him around the bases and put the Beach up, 1-0.

The Aggies led 4-1 after four, but LBSU chipped away with single runs in the next two innings. Hughey's sac fly brought in a run in the fifth while a Kaden Hogan sac fly brought in a run in the sixth. Needing three runs going into the ninth inning, LBSU loaded the bases with one out, but settled for just one run on an RBI groundout from Huffman.

LBSU will look to even up the series on Saturday afternoon. It will be RHP Nick Avila (0-2, 5.13 ERA) for the Dirtbags going against RHP Jake Spillane (1-2, 5.74) with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
