No. 10 Long Beach State Drops Conference Opener Against No. 11 Pepperdine

Long Beach State erased early deficit scoring five straight goals, but fell 10-8.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State faced an early deficit but was able to fight their way back into the game going toe-to-toe against the Pepperdine Waves, but was unable to come out victorious ending in a final score of 10-8.
Long Beach State found themselves down 4-0 midway through the first quarter, but a couple of goals from seniors Keegan Wicken and Max Cusator brought them within two (4-2) at the end of the first quarter. LBSU opened the second quarter with a couple of goals from juniors Johnathan Wong and Austin Stewart to tie the game at 4-4. Keegan Wicken put the Beach up 5-4 giving them the first lead of the night with 5:41 left in the second period. A couple goals from Pepperdine and one late goal from freshman Aaron Arias had the game tied at the half, 6-6.
LBSU and Pepperdine would exchange goals late in the third period with the goal coming from Johnathan Wong ending the period at 7-7. Pepperdine would score the next three goals to seal the victory for the Waves. Senior Lovro Miocevic would score before the end of regulation to bring the game to a close of 10-8.
Keegan Wicken and Johnathan Wong led the Beach with a pair of goals each. Marwan Darwish had himself a strong performance in goal with nine saves.
The Beach will travel up north to face No. 3 Stanford on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
