Dirtbags Crush San Diego State 16-4 LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State (20-18-1) broke out the bats for the third time in five games, scoring a season-high 16 runs in a 16-4 win over visting San Diego State (15-29). It was the team's fourth win in a row, as The Beach pounded out 15 hits. The Beach broke open the game in the third with 10 runs to lead 11-1. AJ Pinochio drove in four runs in the inning, with a single and a three-run triple and went 3-for-5 in the game, while Kip Masuda went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Pinocchio hit in his seventh-straight game since starting for the first time in two months on April 15, as it was his fifth-straight multi-hit game. Brandon Godfrey tied a career-best with four-hits, while Evan Longoria went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Robert Perry scored four runs and went 3-for-3 with two RBIs as well. In the third, Sean Boatright's RBI double made it 3-1, before Godfrey's single to center made it 4-1. Masuda then broke it open further with a two-run single to lead 6-1. Perry, who led off the inning with a triple, drove in the seventh run with an RBI single. Pinocchio then drove a ball down the rightfield line to clear the bases and make it 11-1. LBSU then added two unearned runs in the fourth to lead 13-1. Will Miller (1-3) gave up five runs on five hits over two-plus innings for SDSU, before Mike Koons gave up five runs in just a third of an inning. Shane Peterson (1-1), the team's second reliever, picked up his first collegiate win. Boatright produced a bases loaded sacrifice fly to give LBSU a 1-0 lead in the first. Brett Andrade, in his first career start, went the first two pre-determined innings, striking out a career-best four and giving up one hit, yielding to The Beach remain at home this weekend when they host Pacific for a three-game series, beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday's Mike Weathers Show at Cirivello's at 4115 Viking Way in Long Beach will feature outfielder Ted Pattock. |
