
No. 7 Long Beach State Faces No. 16 California Baptist In Opening Round Of The Overnght MPSF Invite

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Men's Water Polo will kick off their campaign at the Overnight MPSF Invite, co-hosted by UCLA and USC, against No. 16 California Baptist on Friday afternoon.
The 16-team tournament will be divided into two pools as both crosstown rivals host this year's invitational. All games will be livestreamed through overnght.com. The Beach is in Group D along with the Lancers, No. 4 Stanford, and No. 15 Santa Clara and will play their game against CBU at the Spieker Aquatic Center on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Depending on the result, LBSU will face either the Broncos or the Cardinal.
The Beach (7-2) played their first home matches of the year as they defeated Harvard, 23-13, and won a trio of exhibition matches against Golden West College, Orange Coast College, and Long Beach City College.
Sophomore Gabi Acosta continues to lead the Beach on offense with 34 goals this season, scoring in every single game so far. Acosta sits fourth in the nation in goals scored while leading the Big West Conference in both goals and points. The center scored a hat trick against the Crimson and is two goals short of the 100 career goals milestone. Senior Toring Stanley had a team-high five assists to go along with his hat trick against Harvard to pace the offense. Sophomore Olivér Sudár played his first game for Long Beach State and tied a team-high with five assists while adding two goals. In the cage, goalkeeper Joe Jenness recorded eight saves and added two steals.
California Baptist (6-3) is on a three-game winning streak coming off road wins against Harvard, 18-13 and No. 19 George Washington, 18-16, as well as a home win against Biola, 16-8. CBU's losses all came against top 10 ranked opponents. They dropped a close match against No. 8 UC Irvine on the opening weekend, 15-14, No. 1 UCLA, 21-5, and No. 9 Princeton, 18-10. The Lancers are led by sophomore Andrea Nuzzo with 27 goals, followed by senior Alex Righetti with 18. Freshman Whitley Beamon has a team-high eight assists, and all four goalies have combined for 49 saves this year.
