Late Goal From Corbin Stanley Gives Long Beach State The Win In A 17-16 Thriller Over California Baptist

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Tied with under two minutes left, Long Beach State found the win against No. 16 California Baptist behind a beautiful outside shot by sophomore Corbin Stanley as Long Beach State won their first game at the Overnght MPSF Invitational.
Long Beach State (8-2) got on the board first with junior Marc Frigola from the outside. California Baptist (6-4) quickly tied things, but sophomore Oliver Sudar added one to the tally to give the Beach an early lead. The Lancers bounced back with two goals and took the lead in the game for the first time. Frigola added his second to tie the game again before CBU regained the lead. Sophomores Artur Diaz and Konstantinos Kapragkos added one each to put LBSU back in the lead, 5-4. CBU answered with two of their own to lead 6-5. Zalan Nagy tied the game at six before the Lancers' late goal gave them the lead after eight minutes, 7-6.
A strong start by the Beach in the second quarter put the team ahead after goals by Harper Stewart and Caleb Francisco. CBU added one to shorten the gap, but a 4-0 run by Long Beach State gave them control heading into halftime, up 12-8.
The third quarter saw the Lancers in control as they pushed two 3-0 runs to gain momentum against the Beach and tie the game at 14 with one quarter left.
Sophomore Gabi Acosta added his 100th career goal for the Beach after CBU scored early in the fourth. The Lancers took an early lead, but Frigola tied the game again with his fourth of the day, and a late goal by Corbin Stanley gave the win over the Lancers, 17-16.
The Beach will face No. 4 Stanford (6-0) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Spieker Aquatics Center for a spot in the Overnght MPSF Invitational semifinals. Live coverage is provided through overnght.com, and live stats can be followed on 6-8scores.com.
