Long beach State Opens Big West Action On The Road At UC Davis, UC Riverside
The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team opens Big West action this week with road matches at UC Davis and UC Riverside. The Beach and the Aggies will face off on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the University Credit Union Center at 6 p.m. LBSU will then return to SoCal to take on the Highlanders on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. at the SRC Arena.

• Long Beach State brings a 6-4 overall record into the week as the Beach open Big West action on the road.
• Interim Head Coach Natalie Reagan is back for her second season overall at Long Beach State, but in her first at the helm. She earned her first-career win on Thursday, September 5 in a four-set victory over Northwestern. The win kicked off a four-match winning streak for the Beach.
• The Beach turned in a solid preseason as they strung together four-straight victories, marking the first time LBSU went on a four-match winning streak during the preseason since 2015.
• Reagan is joined on the sidelines by Associate Head Coach Bjarne Huus who is in his second season, as well as Assistant Coach Jordan Molina who returned to LBSU for his second year after serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach during the 2022 season. In his first year with the Beach, Blake Omartian also serves as an assistant coach.
• The Beach are coming off of a pair of wins last week over Washington State (3-0) and Pepperdine (3-1).
• The sweep over the Cougars marked the first time the Beach defeated Washington State in Long Beach, Calif. LBSU's previous wins over WSU came at neutral site venues.
• Additionally, the straight set win over Washington State was the first time a team had swept the Cougars this season.
• Senior outside hitter Natalie Glenn finished the preseason with five double-doubles and a team-leading 3.14 kills per set on a .302 clip. She also leads the Beach with 2.81 digs per set and 0.39 aces per set.
• Redshirt senior outside hitter Abby Karich is coming off of a career performance in which she posted six blocks against Washington State last Friday. This season, she has contributed 2.06 kills per set, 1.67 digs per set, and 0.52 blocks per set.
• Zayna Meyer has paced the Long Beach State offense at setter as she has distributed 8.06 assists per set to rank sixth in The Big West.
• Sophomore middle blocker Ella Lomigora begins Big West competition after a stellar preseason in which she led Long Beach State and The Big West with a .402 attack percentage. Her team-leading 0.97 blocks per set average is good for seventh in the conference. During the preseason, Lomigora set two new career-highs as she tallied a career-best 10 blocks against Northwestern, becoming the first LBSU player to reach double-digit blocks since 2018. She went on to lead the Beach with a career-high 12 kills on a career-best .857 (12-0-14) hitting percentage against Washington State.
• Senior middle blocker Kameron Bacon has been solid on both sides of the ball this season contributing 1.33 kills per set and 0.89 blocks per set.Â
• At libero, the Beach have utilized both redshirt freshman Sarah Vellucci and senior Jenna Giambi. Giambi concluded the preseason averaging 2.28 digs per set.
• This season, Long Beach State has been chosen to finish third in The Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Beach garnered 83 points and two first-place votes coming in just two points behind second place Hawaii, which garnered 85 points and thee first-place votes. Cal Poly collected 94 points and five first-place votes and was chosen as the preseason favorite.
Scouting UC Davis
• UC Davis begins Big West action with a 5-4 overall record.
• The Aggies are coming off of an impressive 3-1 win over UCLA last weekend in Davis, Calif.Â
• As a team, UC Davis is hitting .179, while averaging 11.84 kills per set on 11.19 assists per set. The Aggies also have collected 15.62 digs per set, to go along with 2.14 blocks per set, and 1.41 aces per set.
• The Aggies have a pair of players averaging more than 3.00 kills per set in Jade Light (3.30 kps) and Olivia Utterback (3.14 kps). The duo lead the offensive attack, while Utterback also leads UC Davis with 13 aces.
• Mia Starr is the Aggies' setter as she paces the offensive with 9.43 assists per set. She also adds 2.59 digs per set and 0.62 blocks per set.
• Libero Julia Ng anchors the backrow with 4.38 digs per set, while Allie Caldwell leads the blocking defense with 37 blocks to average 1.00 blocks per set.Â

• The Highlanders are coming off of a pair of wins over Louisiana Tech (3-1) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-0).Â
• As a team, UCR is hitting .203, while averaging 10.86 kills per set on 10.86 assists per set. The Highlanders also have collected 13.45 digs per set, to go along with 1.43 blocks per set, and 1.80 aces per set.
• Trinity Sheridan is UC Riverside's leading scorer with 3.02 kills per set. She has also added 1.67 digs per set, 0.37 blocks per set, and 0.27 aces per set this season.Â
• UCR platoons Beatriz Silva and Makena Tong at setter. Silva leads the way with 4.79 assists per set, while Tong chips in 4.40.
• On the defensive end, Jessica Dean is the team's libero as she is averaging a team-best 4.31 digs per set.
• Brianna Bowyer leads the Highlanders at the net with 29 blocks to average 0.63 blocks per set.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Highlanders

Sophomore middle blocker Ella Lomigora turned in an excellent preseason showing. The 6-foot-2 product out of Tempe, Ariz., led the Beach in blocking defense (0.97 blocks per set) and hitting percentage (.402). Her attack percentage was also tops in the conference and 41st in the nation. Lomigora totaled 35 total blocks in the preseason for a 0.97 bps average which puts her seventh in the league. In the first 10 matches of the 2024 campaign, Longoria has already set two new career-highs for herself. She posted a career-high 10 blocks against Northwestern, becoming the first LBSU player to reach double-digit blocks since 2018. Then she went on to lead the Beach with a career-high 12 kills on a career-best .857 (12-0-14) hitting percentage against Washington State.
The Best in the (Big) West
Long Beach State has three players who rank in the top 10 in The Big West statistics wise. In addition to Ella Lomigora's league-leading .402 clip and her coming in seventh in the conference in blocks per set (0.97), Natalie Glenn and Zayna Meyer also have found themselves among the top players in The Big West. Glenn ranks in the top 10 in service aces per set with 0.44 to rank fourth, while also coming in seventh in points per set set (43.81) and ninth in kills per set (3.14).
