Long Beach State had seven aces and a balanced attack in the victory.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State bookended a four-set win with two dominant set victories against San Jose State, winning its second match in two days 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 25-13.

Long Beach State (5-2) was led by Sidney Hamaker with 12 kills, but had a balanced attack with five hitters recording seven or more kills. Four different players also had aces, an edge at the service line that played a major role in the large first and fourth set wins. Hamaker added a career-high 11 digs for her first double-double, while Madi Maxwell also finished with a double-double, leading the team with 31 assists and 15 digs while adding eight kills on .235 hitting.

The Beach were very effective in the first set, forcing San Jose State (4-4) into eight errors with just four kills, a negative -.125 attack percentage that led Long Beach State to a convincing 25-15 first set victory. Led by five kills in the set from Kendal Murphy, it was a block from Murphy and Pola Bujnarowska that sparked a first push, going out to 11-6 on an overpass kill from the senior leading to an SJSU timeout. A Sidney Hamaker kill followed by an Anna Jelinek ace gave the Beach a 21-10 lead on the way to an early lead.

After Long Beach State took an early lead in the second set, San Jose State pulled to within one at 11-10, but Long Beach State responded, picking up kills from Chloe Johnson and Hamaker to push their edge back out to four at 14-10. A slide to Hope extended the lead to 19-12, and the Beach took the second 25-21.

A late six-point run from the Spartans to close out the second gave San Jose State some momentum, which they took into the third to open on a 5-1 run. Long Beach State continued to chip away, first pulling to within one at 10-9 prior to a Johnson kill tying the set at 11-11. Tied at 12, San Jose won a side out and pushed three to re-establish the lead. The Spartans held the lead the rest of the way in the third to extend the match with a 25-23 win.

Long Beach State put the Spartans under pressure in service to pull away in the fourth. An ace by Hamaker made the score 4-3, and three aces in a big service run from Izzy Mahaffey led Long Beach State to a 14-5 lead. The Beach ultimately finished the fourth with five aces in total while hitting .345, rolling to a 25-13 win to close out the victory.

Long Beach State finishes the weekend on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Loyola Marymount, who were winners in the day's earlier match over Brown to improve to 7-1 on the year. Live coverage of that match can be found on ESPN+.
