Hope hit .571 and Hamaker hit .480 as the Beach swept the Lions.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Volleyball put together their most comprehensive performance of the year, dropping Loyola Marymount in straight sets behind dominant nights from outside hitter Sidney Hamaker and middle blocker Reagan Hope.

Loyola Marymount (7-2) entered Sunday's match with just one loss on the year, but were quickly outmatched by Long Beach State (6-2). The Beach finished with 8 aces, while LMU had 10 service errors in a decisive edge for Long Beach State, and had big nights from Hamaker and Hope. Hamaker once again led Long Beach State in kills with 15, but had her most efficient match of the season, hitting .480. Even more effective was Hope, who had 9 kills on .571 hitting, making just one error while contributing three blocks.

Long Beach State hit .306 on the way to a first set win. A smashed overpass by Kendal Murphy followed by an ace from Izzy Mahaffey gave the Beach a 7-4 lead. A pair of Lion errors led to an LMU timeout with the Beach on top 13-8. With the Beach up 20-12, LMU made a short run to cut the lead to 22-17, but a kill from Hamaker and an ace by Anna Jelinek closed out the set.

The strong play for the Beach continued in the second set, as Long Beach State raced out to a 4-0 lead behind a pair of Pola Bujnarowska blocks. Back-to-back aces from Laurel Barsocchini extended the lead to 13-8, and another ace from Mahaffey made the score 23-16. Though the hitting percentage overall for the Beach went down, LBSU also forced LMU into seven errors on the set for .091 hitting on the way to a 25-17 win.

Hope continued her strong play, putting down an overpass before another kill helped push Long Beach State out to a 10-7 lead. LMU pulled back though, and took their first lead of the set at 13-12 on a kill by Maria Tabacuks. A fourth ace by Mahaffey regained the lead for Long Beach State at 16-15, and the Beach picked up an additional point on serve with a kill from Murphy at 18-16. Two straight kills from Hamaker extended the lead to 22-18, and the Beach wrapped up their most impressive win of the season so far.

Winners of six straight, Long Beach State will now play six straight on the road, starting with a trip to Washington State where the Beach will play the Cougars in back-to-back days starting on Thursday, September 17.
