Long Beach State picks up a Pac-12 win with a sweep on the road in Pullman.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Long Beach State extended their winning streak to seven straight matches with a 3-0 win over Washington State, dropping the Cougars 25-22-25-19, 25-19.

Long Beach State (7-2) had a decisive edge on the end line, finishing with six aces while the Cougars had 13 total service errors on the night. Offensively, the Beach got a big night from Chloe Johnson who had 10 kills on .333 hitting.

Long Beach State trailed early in the opening set against Washington State (6-3) as the Cougars took an early 10-7 lead after a three-point push at 7-7. The Beach fought back, tying the set at 14-14 on a Kendal Murphy kill, and then the Beach went on a key push with the senior behind the endline. Murphy picked up a kill on a sideout, and then an ace put the Beach out in front 18-17. Hamaker pushed the lead to 19-17 on a kill, and finally an ace from Murphy ended the run with the Beach in front 22-17. The Cougars came back to cut the lead to two, but a big block from Hamaker and Reagan Hope took back the momentum and the Beach wrapped up the first as a 25-22 win.

Tied at 8-8 in the second, a pair of Mary Healy kills gave Washington State an 11-8 lead. The Beach went to their stars to rally back, tying the score at 13-13 before a number of sideouts. A big Johnson kill and a WSU error led to a Washington State timeout with the Beach on top 18-16. A Hamaker ace kept the momentum out of the that timeout, and Long Beach State closed out the second as former Cougar Haumea Marumoto put away a kill for a 25-19 win.

Johnson stayed hot to begin the third set, smashing her seventh kill of the match to open up at 5-1 lead for Long Beach State. The Beach had their most efficient hitting set of the evening, closing out the match hitting .300 in the third, and led the whole way. An ace from Izzy Mahaffey pushed the lead to 17-13, and Long Beach State wrapped up the win with a 25-19 victory in the third.

The teams will return to Boehler Gym for their second match on Friday evening. First serve is set for 6 p.m., with the action again being carried live via the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
