Long Beach Women's Volleyball Hosts Washington, Washington State, And Pepperdine In Preseason Tournament
As the Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team continues preseason play, the Beach will host a tournament of their own this weekend. LBSU welcomes Washington, Washington State, and Pepperdine to the Walter Pyramid September 19-21. The Beach and the Huskies kick off the tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m. Friday is a doubleheader with Pepperdine and Washington playing at 3 p.m., followed by Long Beach State and Washington State at 6 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Saturday at 4 p.m., when the Beach take on the Waves of Pepperdine.

• Long Beach State is not currently ranked in the AVCA Division I Poll. The Beach are 4-3 overall this season.
• The Beach have a competitive schedule this season. They will face five teams that are either nationally ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Rankings.

About the Beach
• Long Beach State brings a 4-3 overall record into the week as the Beach prepare to host a tournament at the Walter Pyramid.
• The Beach's four victories came in a row as they strung together a four-match winning streak.
• Interim Head Coach Natalie Reagan is back for her second season overall at Long Beach State, but in her first at the helm. She earned her firs-career win on Thursday, September 5 in a four-set victory over Northwestern.
• Reagan is joined on the sidelines by Associate Head Coach Bjarne Huus who is in his second season, as well as Assistant Coach Jordan Molina who returned to LBSU for his second year after serving as a Volunteer Assistant Coach during the 2022 season. In his first year with the Beach, Blake Omartian also serves as an assistant coach.
• This season, Long Beach State returns all its letterwinners from a year ago, minus the graduating seniors. Additionally, the Beach welcome in four newcomers to the mix.
• Leading the way for LBSU are Big West Preseason Coaches Team selections Zayna Meyer and Natalie Glenn.
• Meyer is a senior setter who is averaging 8.08 assists per set, while also recording 1.70 digs per set.
• Glenn is a senior outside hitter who is the Beach's leading scorer with 3.16 kills per set. She also leads the squad with 2.68 digs per set, while contributing 0.52 blocks per set.
• Abby Karich came back strong this season after missing the last month of last year with an injury. She is currently playing outside hitter and averaging 1.91 kills per set, while adding 1.70 digs per set.
• Kameron Bacon, a 6-foot-4 middle, has contributed on both sides of the ball this season. She has put up 1.36 kills per set, while posting 0.84 blocks per set at the net.
• Ella Lomigora is in her sophomore season at Long Beach State. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker leads the Beach in blocks with 1.04 per set, while adding 1.76 kills per set on a .308 attack percentage.
• This season, Long Beach State has been chosen to finish third in The Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Beach garnered 83 points and two first-place votes coming in just two points behind second place Hawaii, which garnered 85 points and thee first-place votes. Cal Poly collected 94 points and five first-place votes and was chosen as the preseason favorite.
About The Newcomers
• Freshman middle blocker Preslie Yates joins the Beach from Berkeley, Calif., where she was a four-year letterwinner at Berkeley High School and played club with Absolute Volleyball Club.
• Madi Maxwell is a 6-2 setter and opposite who comes to LBSU after playing four years at Newhall High School. A three-time First Team All-Foothill League selection, Maxwell, was also named Foothill Player of the Year in 2023. She finished her prep career with 1,206 kills and 2,000 aces.
• Freshman defensive specialist Kamryn Santi was a three-year letterwinner at Chino Hills High School where she won two Division 3 CIF Championships as a sophomore and again as a senior.
• Rounding out the newcomers is freshman setter Madi Collins. Collins was named to the Volleyball Magazine Dream Team and was a three-time AVCA Phemon selection. The Redondo Union Varsity MVP as a sophomore went on to repeat as the school MVP in a breakout season in her junior campaign which culminated in her earning First Team All-Bay League honors.
Scouting Washington
• Washington has started the year off strong, boasting a perfect 8-0 record.
• The Huskies have played a competitive schedule, but have been highly successful earning key victories over Georgia (3-2), Colorado (3-2), Washington State (3-1), and Oregon State (3-1).
• As a team, Washington is hitting .258, while averaging 13.38 kills per set on 12.69 assists per set. The Huskies also have collected 14.50 digs per set, to go along with 2.78 blocks per set, and 1.38 aces per set.
• Kierstyn Barton is the Huskies leading scorer as she averages 3.78 kills per set on a .324 attack percentage. Additionally, Barton chips in 2.33 digs per set and 0.44 blocks per set on the year.
• Washington platoons a pair of setters in Alexis Haury and Molly Wilson, who average 5.56 and 5.06 assists per set, respectively. The pair are also solid defensively with Haury logging 2.19 digs per set and Wilson adding 2.09.
• Lauren Bays is the team's libero as she anchors the defense with 3.28 digs per set.
• At the net, Washington has two players who average more than 1.00 blocks per set. Julia Hunt leads the way with 1.31 blocks per set, while Katy Wessels adds 1.22.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Huskies
Long Beach State and Washington will meet for the ninth time in program history. In the all-time series, the two teams are tied 4-4. The series started in 1979 and the Beach won the first four contests. However, since 2007, the Huskies have been victories. When playing each other in Long Beach, Calif.

• Washington State brings a 4-3 overall record into the week of the Long Beach State Tournament.
• The Cougars won three matches in a row with victories over Omaha (3-2), and two against Eastern Washington (3-1, 3-2). They are coming off of a 3-2 win over UC Davis last Saturday.
• As a team, Washington State is hitting .142, while averaging 11.56 kills per set on 10.84 assists per set. The Huskies also have collected 15.34 digs per set, to go along with 2.03 blocks per set, and 1.56 aces per set.
• Katy Ryan and Sage Brustad lead the team in kills with 3.13 and 3.06 kills per set, respectively.
• At setter, Italia Bernal leads the offense distributing 7.97 assists per set. She also adds2.52 digs per set.
• In the backcourt, Emma Barbero paces the defense with 4.44 digs per set.
• Lucie Blazkova leads the Huskies on blocking defense as she has put up 1.03 blocks per set this season. She also contributes 1.91 kills per set on a .299 clip.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Cougars
Long Beach State and Washington State will meet for the sixth time in program history and the Beach leads the all-time series 3-2. In a series that began in 1991, Long Beach State took the first three matches, and the Cougars have won the last two. When playing each other in Long Beach, Calif., Washington State leads the series 1-0.
Scouting Pepperdine
• Pepperdine opens the week with a 3-5 overall record.
• The Waves won their last two contests against Omaha (3-2) and UC Santa Barbara (3-0) as they look to continue their winning ways at the Long Beach State Tournament.
• As a team, Pepperdine is hitting .203, while averaging 12.03 kills per set on 11.50 assists per set. The Waves also have collected 14.03 digs per set, to go along with 1.97 blocks per set, and 1.19 aces per set.
• Grace Chillingworth leads the Waves with 3.53 kills per set. Meanwhile, Birdie Hendrickson adds 3.09 kills per set to also contribute on the offensive attack.
• Rosemary Archer and Brynne McGhie split setter duties as Archer leads the way with 5.78 assists per set, while McGhie adds 4.24.
• On the defensive end, libero Tiffany Stanger paces the backrow with 3.31 digs per set.
• Ella Piskorz patrols the net with 1.25 blocks per set, while adding 1.09 kills on a .259 attack percentage.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Waves
Long Beach State and Pepperdine will meet for the 35th time in program history. Long Beach State holds the lead in the all-time series, 18-16. The two teams will face off for the first time since 2017. When playing at Long Beach, LBSU leads the series 9-4.
