9/19/2024 10:20:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

Natalie Glenn recorded her fourth double-double of the year, while Ella Lomigora hit .533 in the Beach’s loss

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team started out strong, but dropped a 3-1 [25-21, 11-25, 23-25, 16-25] contest to Washington on Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid.

LBSU (4-4) lead Washington (9-0) in digs 49-44, but the Huskies held the edge in every other statistical category as they extended their winning streak to nine.

Senior outside hitter Natalie Glenn was phenomenal for the Beach as she led the way with her fourth double-double of the year. She led the Beach in both kills and digs with 14 and 12, respectively, while hitting .357.

Leading the Beach with a .533 attack percentage was sophomore Ella Lomigora who connected on 9-of-15 attempts, while committing just one attack error.

Senior setter Zayna Meyer narrowly missed a double-double as she finished the match with 27 assists, nine digs, three kills, and two blocks.

Jenna Giambi, a senior libero, helped anchor the backrow as she logged nine digs in the match.

The Beach turned in their best performance in the first set as they hit .293 and defeated the Huskies, 25-21. Long Beach State, however, had to fight for the win as Washington used an early 5-0 run to take a 7-4 edge. But the Beach strung together four-straight points of their own to even the score at 12-all. From there, LBSU remained in control holding a 15-14 lead at the media timeout before earning a 25-21 win.

The second set was all Washington as the Huskies opened the frame on a 6-0 run and never looked back. Washington opened up a double-digit lead (14-4) and held a comfortable lead the rest of the way as they claimed the second set, 25-11.

The Huskies opened the third set jumping out in front, 4-1. The Beach got a big kill from Lomigora who evened things up at 9-0. The game went back and forth and freshman Madi Maxwell gave Long Beach State a 19-18 lead on a big kill. However, the Huskies managed to regain the lead and take the third set, 25-23.

Washington carried the momentum from the second and third sets into the fourth as the Huskies took a quick 4-1 lead to start the set. After scoring four-straight, UW led 11-5. The Huskies broke the game open with a 5-0 run as they took a 10-point advantage (21-11). From there, Washington put the game away, 25-16.

The Huskies had three players record double-figure kills. Madi Endsley led the way with 13, while Emoni Bush added 12, and Audra Wilmes registered 10. Wilmes led the team with four aces, while adding two digs and two blocks.

Setters Molly Wilson and Alexis Haury split time running the offense as Wilson concluded the match with 22 assists, and Haury posted 16.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 20 when they host Washington State at 6 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
