LBSU Women's Basketball Set to Host California Baptist at the Walter Pyramid
Following a three-game road swing, the Long Beach State Women's Basketball Team is back home at the Walter Pyramid this Saturday, Dec. 3 as the Beach host California Baptist at 4 p.m.

In the Rankings
Long Beach State will play two games against nationally ranked teams this season starting with then-No. 18 Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. In that contest, the Beach took an early lead which they held through most of the first half. The fourth quarter was the difference maker as the Wildcats pulled away to win 86-64. Next, the Beach will travel to Waco, Texas on Wednesday, Dec. 21 to face No. 21 Baylor. In addition, the Beach opened the season against Gonzaga which was receiving votes in both the AP Poll and the USA Today/WBCA Poll at the time. Currently, Gonzaga has moved into the AP Poll wiht a No. 23 ranking, while sitting at No. 25 in the USA Today/WBCA Poll In the Women's Mid-Major Poll, Gonzaga is top-ranked as they have earned 26 first-place votes. Big West foes UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara are receiving votes in the Women's Mid-Major Poll.
Winter Wonderland at the Walter Pyramid
This Saturday's game against California Baptist is a Winter Wonderland at the Walter Pyramid. Long Beach State will hold a toy drive and fans are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game. Additionally, fans who come to the game will receive an LB Ornament while supplies last.
About the Beach
• Long Beach State brings a 2-3 overall record into the week.
• The Beach went 1-1 last week at the USF Thanksgiving Classic as they defeated Tulsa, 64-45, but fell to host San Francisco, 74-50.
• As a team, Long Beach State is shooting 41.4-percent from the field, while shooting 32.8-percent from long distance.
• The Beach have averaged 62.2 points per game over the first five games of the 2022-23 campaign.
• LBSU is averaging 30.2 rebounds per game to go along with 13.6 assists per game, 11.6 steals, per game, and 2.2 blocks per game this season.
• The Beach have been chosen to finish third in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll with a total of 73 points Long Beach was chosen to finish behind preseason favorite Hawaii, which earned 99 points and nine first-place votes, as well as UC Santa Barbara, which came in second with 84 points and two first place votes.
• This season, Long Beach State welcomes back six letterwinners, including starters Ma'Qhi Berry and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher.
• Additionally, the Beach brings in 10 new faces as the roster features six transfer student-athletes and four incoming freshmen.
• Headlining the newcomers are transfer student-athletes Malia Bambrick who came from Peppedrine and Tori Harris who played at St. Bonaventure.
Player Notes
• Ma'Qhi Berry is back at the Beach for her final season and has gotten off to a hot start. The redshirt senior from Irving, Texas currently leads Long Beach State in assists (19) and steals (10), while also contributing 5.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
• Malia Bambrick is utilizing her fifth year of eligibility at Long Beach State after having played four years at Pepperdine. Bambrick made the most of her Long Beach debut as she poured in a season-high 21 points. On the year, she is averaging a team-leading 12.4 points per game, as the team's second leading scorer. She also adds 3.6 rebounds per game to along with 12 assists and six steals.
• Savannah Tucker has come off the bench in all five of LBSU's games thus far and is averaging 4.6 points per game. Tucker had an outstanding showing against La Sierra as she was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field as she concluded the contest with 16 points. On the year, she has also posted 2.0 rebounds per game, four steals, and two assists.
• Patricia Chung has been an asset for Long Beach State as the guard out of Monterey Park, Calif., has come off the bench in the Beach's five games this season and done an excellent job making a difference. On the year, Chung is averaging 2.2 points per game, 1.0 rebounds per game, while totaling seven assists, five steals, and one block.
• Kennan Ka has kicked off her rookie season with action off the bench in all five games so far. She recorded a season-high five points twice and is averaging 2.2 points per game, while adding three steals, and two assits.
• Casey Valenti Paea is a junior transfer from Buffalo where she played for two years and totaled 11 games with one start. In limited action due to injury, Valenti Paea averaged 0.7 points per game, 0.6 rebounds per game, and 0.5 steals per game. She has not seen action for the Beach thus far.
• Kristyna Jeskeova has started in all five games for the Beach this season as she has made a difference. Last week at the USF Thanksgiving Classic, she grabbed a season-high 10 boards against Tulsa. She is now averaging a team-leading 5.2 rebounds per game to go along with 3.6 points per game, seven steals, four assists, and two blocks.
• Tori Harris is the Beach's third leading scorer this season as she averages 10.6 points per game. In five contests, shes reached double-digits four times, with a season-high 13 points at San Francisco. On the year, Harris is averaging 4.0 rebounds per game, while also adding nine assists, eight steals, and two blocks.
• Abby Shoff has come off the bench and seen action in four games this season. In her most recent contest, she registered a season-high five points at San Francisco to bring her season average to 2.3 points per game. Shoff also adds 1.3 rebounds per game and two steals.
• Sydney Woodley joins the Beach after having played her rookie season at Big West opponent, CSUN. With the Matadors, Woodley saw action in 23 games and made one start as she averaged 6.6 points per game to go along with 3.0 rebounds per game, while adding 66 steals, 28 assists, and five blocks. Her 2.9 steals per game ranked her second in The Big West, while her 66 steals ranked her fourth in CSUN's single-season record book. She has not yet seen action for Long Beach State.
• Lauren Green has played in all five Long Beach State games this season as she as come off the bench to total 42 minutes thus far. During that time, she averages 0.8 points per game, 1.2 rebounds per game, and two steals.
• Iyree Jarrett comes to LBSU to use her final year of eligibility, while also earning her Master's Degree. She spent the last four years as the starting point guard at Westmont College where she averaged 13.1 points per game. She finished her NAIA career with 1,415 career points, while also adding 4.8 assists per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game. A two-time NAIA First Team All-American, Jarrett made the most of her career at Westmont where she led the Warriors to their second National Championship in program history in 2020-21. Jarrett has yet to see action for Long Beach State this season.
• Kianna Hamilton-Fisher poured in a career-high 25 points against Tulsa to bring her season average to a team-leading 12.8 points per game. Additionally, Hamilton-Fisher is averaging 2.2 rebounds per game, nine steals, eight assists, and two blocks this season.
• Olivia Moore is a freshman guard who prepped at Mead High School in Spokane, Wash. In her senior year, Moore averaged 10.4 points per game and led her team to a 24-2 overall record. A versatile athlete, Moore also lettered in both basketball and soccer at Mead. She has not played for the Beach this season.
• Courtney Murphy, a senior transfer from Seattle U, has come off the bench for Long Beach State in all five games this season and is averaging 5.3 points per game and 4.0 rebounds per game. She has also contributed four assists, two blocks, and one steal.
• Davai Matthews made her Long Beach State debut coming off the bench against both Gonzaga and La Sierra. In 12 minutes of action thus far, Matthews has averaged 1.0 points per game and 1.0 rebounds per game.
Scouting California Baptist
• California Baptist brings a 2-5 overall record into the Walter Pyramid.
• The Lancers look to snap a three-game losing skid after having lost five of their last six contests. Their lone win during that stretch came on Nov. 19 against Santa Clara as CBU defeated the Broncos, 83-72.
• Prior to coming into the week, CBU had not played a road game yet this season. However, the Lancers traveled to USC for a Wednesday night contest in which they fell, 69-58, to the Trojans.
• This season, the Lancers are averaging 75.4 points per game, while shooting 37.3-percent from the field.
• The Lancers have three players averaging double-digits led by Trinity San Antonio who has 18.5 points per game. Following San Antonio are Chloe Webb (11.4 ppg) and Grace Schmidt (10.7 ppg).
• In addition to leading the team in scoring, San Antonio also leads the squad with 5.5 rebounds per game, while adding 19 assists and 10 steals.
• Webb, who is a transfer from UC Irvine, leads the Lancers with 16 steals to go along with 4.6 rebounds per game and 11 assists.
• Brittany Klaman has dished out a team-leading 27 assists this season, while also adding 9.3 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, and four steals.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Lancers
Long Beach State and California Baptist will face off for just the third time in program history. In the previous two meetings, CBU defeated the Beach 85-83 in 2018 and 79-70 in 2019. LBSU is looking for its first-ever win over the Lancers.
Career-Game
Redshirt junior guard Kianna Hamilton-Fisher turned in a career-performance last Friday against Tulsa at the USF Thanksgiving Classic. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native poured in a career-high 25 points as she led the Beach to a 64-45 victory over the Golden Hurricane. Hamilton-Fisher was hot from the start as she connected on 12-of-19 field goals, with one coming from behind the arc to lead the LBSU offensive attack. With her 25-point showing, Hamilton-Fisher becomes just the sixth player in the Jeff Cammon era to record a 25-point game at the Beach.
Cleaning up the Glass
Junior guard Kristyna Jeskeova turned in a solid rebounding game in Long Beach State's 64-45 victory over Tulsa at the USF Thanksgiving Classic. The product out of the Czech Republic pulled down 10 boards in the contest marking her first double-figure rebounding game of the season and the eighth in her career. Jeskeova is now averaging 5.2 rebounds per game to lead Long Beach State.
