LONG BEACH, Calif. –
Long Beach State forced California Baptist into 24 turnovers and led throughout the contest as the Beach defeated the Lancers, 67-59, on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (3-3) shot 41.7-percent from the field and capitalized on their solid defensive showing as they tallied 22 points off of turnovers. Meanwhile, the Lancers (2-6) dropped their fourth-straight game as they shot 31.6-percent from the floor.

Long Beach was solid from the start as the Beach opened the game with a jumper outside the paint from Malia Bambrick. After CBU tied it 2-2 with a layup from Leslia Finau, the Beach rattled off six-straight points to take an 8-2 advantage that they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. LBSU held the lead 16-11 at the end of the first quarter after a second-chance layup from Lauren Green.

The Beach broke the game open in the second quarter as a three from Kristyna Jeskeova gave LBSU a 10-point lead (23-13) and sparked an 8-0 run which saw Long Beach take a 15-point lead (28-13), its largest of the contest, after a Patricia Chung completed a three-point play. Despite the Beach's commanding lead, CBU used a 6-0 run of its own to cut LBSU's lead down to five (31-26) before Long Beach took a 32-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

LBSU outscored CBU, 11-9, in the third quarter as the Lancers trailed but stayed within striking distance. The Beach did a good job forcing seven turnovers in the frame which led to five points scored. With just 1:06 remaining in the third quarter, Long Beach pushed its lead back up to 10 (43-33) on a layup from Kianna Hamilton-Fisher, before taking a 43-35 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw California Baptist chip away at the Beach's lead and whittle it down to four (43-39). However, Long Beach State was undeterred as the Beach continued to play their game and found themselves back up by double-digits (51-41) after a three from Hamilton-Fisher. LBSU led by as many as 11 (59-48) in the frame, before winning 67-59 after a Ma'Qhi Berry fast break layup with just 24 seconds remaining.

Bambrick led the Beach with 16 points as she connected on 7-of-14 field goals in the game. Joining Bambrick in double-figures were Tori Harris and Hamilton-Fisher who finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Harris added seven rebounds to tied Berry for the team lead. Berry also added seven points, five assists, and three steals.
LBSU totaled 13 steals on the night as Jeskevoa led the way with four, while Berry and Hamilton-Fisher each recorded three, while Bambrick picked up two, and Harris added one.

California Baptist boasted four double-figure scorers in Chloe Webb (14 points), Finau (12 points), Dorcus Wu, who posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, and Nae Nae Calhoun (10 points). Webb also registered five assists, while Finau and Grace Schmidt each tallied eight rebounds.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 8 against Nevada in Reno at 11 a.m.
