Beach Women's Basketball Set to Take Part in San Francisco Thanksgiving Tournament
The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team continues its road swing at the San Francisco Thanksgiving Tournament this week. The Beach open the tournament against Tulsa on Friday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m., before facing host USF on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 3:30 p.m.

Long Beach State will play two games against nationally ranked teams this season starting with then-No. 18 Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. In that contest, the Beach took an early lead which they held through most of the first half. The fourth quarter was the difference maker as the Wildcats pulled away to win 86-64.Next, the Beach will travel to Waco, Texas on Wednesday, Dec. 21 to face No. 21 Baylor. In addition, the Beach opened the season against Gonzaga which is receiving votes in both the AP Poll and the USA Today/WBCA Poll. In the Women's Mid-Major Poll, Gonzaga is ranked second and earned five first-place votes. Big West foe UC Irvine is receiving votes in the Women's Mid-Major Poll.
About the Beach
• Long Beach State has gotten off to a strong start to the 2022-23 season as the Beach have faced two tough opponents in Gonzaga and then-No. 18 Arizona, in addition to La Sierra.
• LBSU brings a 1-2 overall record into the San Francisco Thanksgiving Tournament in which they will face Tulsa, and host USF.
• Head Coach Jeff Cammon returns to the Beach for his sixth season at the helm after leading LBSU to 19 wins, marking the most in the Cammon era, as well as a WNIT appearance in 2021-22.
• The Beach have been chosen to finish third in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll with a total of 73 points Long Beach was chosen to finish behind preseason favorite Hawaii, which earned 99 points and nine first-place votes, as well as UC Santa Barbara, which came in second with 84 points and two first place votes.
• This season, Long Beach State welcomes back six letterwinners, including starters Ma'Qhi Berry and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher.
• Additionally, the Beach brings in 10 new faces as the roster features six transfer student-athletes and four incoming freshmen.
• Headlining the newcomers are transfer student-athletes Malia Bambrick who came from Pepperine and Tori Harris who played at St. Bonaventure.
Player Notes
• Ma'Qhi Berry returns to the hardwood for her final year in Black & Gold. The redshirt senior guard out of Irving, Texas is averaging 6.3 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. She is leading the Beach in assists with 14, while also contributing a team-best seven steals to go along with two blocks.
• Malia Bambrick is utilizing her fifth year of eligibility at Long Beach State after having played four years at Pepperdine. Bambrick made the most of her Long Beach debut as she poured in a season-high 21 points. On the year, she is averaging a team-leading 14.7 points per game, while adding 3.3 rebounds per game, seven assists and four steals.
• Savannah Tucker has come off the bench in all three of LBSU's games thus far and is averaging 7.7 points per game. Tucker had an outstanding showing against La Sierra as she was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field as she concluded the contest with 16 points. On the year, she has also posted 1.7 rebounds per game, four steals, and two assists.
• Patricia Chung has been an asset for Long Beach State as the guard out of Monterey Park, Calif., has come off the bench in the Beach's three matches this season and done an excellent job making a difference. On the year, Chung is averaging 1.7 points per game, 1.0 rebounds per game, while totaling six assists, four steals, and one block.
• Kennan Ka made her collegiate debut last weekend against Gonzaga. When playing La Sierra, she recorded her first collegiate points as she finished the game with five, while adding one steal and one assist.
• Casey Valenti Paea is a junior transfer from Buffalo where she played for two years and totaled 11 games with one start. In limited action due to injury, Valenti Paea averaged 0.7 points per game, 0.6 rebounds per game, and 0.5 steals per game. She has not seen action for the Beach thus far.
• Kristyna Jeskeova moved her way into the starting lineup and made the most of her first start of the 2022-23 season as she finished the game with 12 points to tie for the team lead. Jeskeova has started all three games for the Beach this season and is averaging 4.7 points per game, while adding 4.3 rebounds per game. She has also swiped five steals, while dishing out four assists, and putting up two blocks.
• Tori Harris wasted no time getting going for the Beach as the senior transfer posted 12 points at Gonzaga to tie for the team lead. She has reached double-digits in every game she has played in this season. Harris is currently averaging 11.7 points per game to go along with 4.0 rebounds per game So far, Harris registered seven steals, five assists, and two blocks this season.
• Abby Shoff made her collegiate debut las she came off the bench and saw a total of 21 minutes combined against Gonzaga and La Sierra. She came off hte bench briefly at No. 18 Arizona and is averaging 1.3 points per game and 0.7 rebounds per game.
• Sydney Woodley joins the Beach after having played her rookie season at Big West opponent, CSUN. With the Matadors, Woodley saw action in 23 games and made one start as she averaged 6.6 points per game to go along with 3.0 rebounds per game, while adding 66 steals, 28 assists, and five blocks. Her 2.9 steals per game ranked her second in The Big West, while her 66 steals ranked her fourth in CSUN's single-season record book. She has not yet seen action for Long Beach State.
• Lauren Green kicked off her senior season seeing action in all three games thus far. The Tucson, Ariz., native has played in a total of 29 minutes off the bench and has contributed 1.0 rebounds per game to go along with two steals.
• Iyree Jarrett comes to LBSU to use her final year of eligibility, while also earning her Master's Degree. She spent the last four years as the starting point guard at Westmont College where she averaged 13.1 points per game. She finished her NAIA career with 1,415 career points, while also adding 4.8 assists per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game. A two-time NAIA First Team All-American, Jarrett made the most of her career at Westmont where she led the Warriors to their second National Championship in program history in 2020-21. Jarrett has yet to see action for Long Beach State this season.
• Kianna Hamilton-Fisher, a redshirt junior guard has earned three starts in as many games and is currently averaging 10.0 points per game after having scored a season-high 13 against La Sierra. Additionally, Hamilton-Fisher is averaging 2.3 rebounds per game, while totaling four assists, four steals, and two blocks.
• Olivia Moore is a freshman guard who prepped at Mead High School in Spokane, Wash. In her senior year, Moore averaged 10.4 points per game and led her team to a 24-2 overall record. A versatile athlete, Moore also lettered in both basketball and soccer at Mead. She has not played for the Beach this season.
• Courtney Murphy, a senior transfer from Seattle U, has come off the bench for Long Beach State in all three games this season and is averaging 5.3 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. She has also contributed four assists, one steal, and one block.
• Davai Matthews made her Long Beach State debut coming off the bench against both Gonzaga and La Sierra. In 12 minutes of action thus far, Matthews has averaged 1.0 points per game and 1.0 rebounds per game.
Scouting Tulsa
• Tulsa comes into the USF Thanksgiving Tournament with a 3-1 overall record.
• The Golden Hurricane's lone loss of the year came on Nov. 14 in a 79-70 loss at Arkansas.
• Tulsa has earned wins over Alcorn (82-33), San Jose State (74-44), and, most recently, Oral Roberts (92-77).
• As a team, the Golden Hurricane is shooting 46.4-percent from the field, while averaging 79.5 points per game. They own a +21.3 scoring margin over their opponents who they've held to 58.3 points per game this season.
• Tulsa has four players averaging double-figures as they are led by Temira Poindexter's 19.5 points per game. Maya Mayberry (12.3 ppg), Delanie Crawford (11.0 ppg), and Maddie Bittle (10.3 ppg) also are averaging double-figures.
• Poindexter also leads the squad in rebounding with 5.3 rebounds per game, while Crawford adds 5.0 boards per game.
• Bittle is the team's leader in assists with 16 helpers, while Poindexter and Mayberry lead the way with four steals each.
• Defensively, Katelyn Levings has posted a team-best six blocks to lead the Golden Hurricane.

Scouting San Francisco
• San Francisco comes into to the week with a 3-2 overall record.
• The Dons have gone back and forth with wins and losses to start the season as they opened the year with a 79-66 win over Cal State East Bay, then dropped a 69-63 decision to Washington State. Since then, the Dons have earned a win over Troy (84-73), with a loss against USC (74-48), and a win over Penn (73-65).
• As a team, USF is averaging 69.4 points per game, while shooting 36.6 percent from the field. The Dons have allowed 69.4 points per game this season, for a scoring margin of 0.0.
• Ioanna Krimili is the Dons' leading scorer with 19.0 points per game. She leads a trio of double-figure scorers in Jasmine Gayles (13.0 ppg) and Kennedy Dickie (12.2 ppg).
• Dickie also leads the team in rebounding with 11.0 rebounds per game to go along with six assists, three steals, and two blocks.
• Jessica McDowell-White has distributed a team-best 20 assists this season, while adding 4.0 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game, and a team-high seven steals.

The Series: The Beach vs. The Dons
Long Beach State and San Francisco will meet for the 13th time in program history. Overall, the Beach lead the all-time series 7-5. However, USF has won the last two meetings against LBSU witt a 73-71 win over the Beach in 2016 and a 66-52 win in 2015. Long Beach is looking for its first win over the Dons since 2014 when the Beach defeated USF, 70-58. When playing each other in San Francisco, Calif., the series is even at 3-3.
Perfection
Sophomore guard Savannah Tucker was perfect from the field last against La Sierra as the Fresno, Calif., native connected on 7-of-7 field goals for a perfect 100.0-percent shooting percentage. By not missing a field goal, Tucker became the first Long Beach State player since Jewelyn Sawyer went 5-for-5 in a 68-60 win at Pacific in 2015. Tucker would finish the game against the Golden Eagles with a total of 16 points as two of her field goals came from behind the arc.
The Best in the (Big) West
As a team, Long Beach State leads The Big West in three statistical categories. The Beach sets the standard in free throw percentage (.815), while also topping the league in assists per game (16.3), and three-point field goals made (9.0).
Among the Nation's Best
The Beach has started the 2022-23 season off strong as the team ranks in the Top 25 in the nation in three different statistical categories. Long Beach comes in 11th in the country in free throw percentage with an 81.5 percentage. LBSU also ranks 15th in three-point field goal percentage as they are shooting 40.9 percent from long distance. Lastly, the Beach rank 25th in the NCAA with 13.0 steals per game. Long Beach State will return to the Walter Pyramid to host California Baptist on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. The game against the Lancers is themed Winter Wonderland at the Pyramid and LB ornaments will be given to fans, while supplies last. Fans who can't make it to the game, can stream the game live on ESPN+.
