LBSU Set to Face Cal Poly in Big West Conference Tournament Quarterfinals
The Long Beach State women's basketball team will open the 2021 Air Force Reserve Big West Basketball Championships presented by Hawaiian Islands on Wednesday, March 10. As the No. 3 seed, LBSU will face No. 6 seed Cal Poly at 8 p.m. at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nev. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 with Matt Brown, Dave Miller and Courtney Sweet on the call.

About the Beach
• Long Beach State closed out the regular season on a high note, with an 80-62 victory over UC Irvine on the road.
• The Beach head into the Big West Tournament as the No. 3 seed owning a conference record of 11-7 and an overall mark of 12-8.
• The Beach opened Big West Conference action on a 10-game winning streak, the team's best league start since the 1987-88 season.
• LBSU has played Cal Poly eight time in the Big West Conference Tournament and owns a 7-1 record over the Mustangs.
• As a No. 3 seed, Long Beach State is 6-4 in the Big West Conference Tournament.  
• The Beach had three players named to the All-Big West Conference Team as Justina King earned First Team honors as well as a nod to the All-Defensive Team. Ma'Qhi Berry also was named to the All-Defensive Team and Patricia Chung was named to the All-Freshman Team.
• Long Beach State boasts three players who are averaging double figures. Leading that group is Justina King with 13.7 points per game, while Naomi Hunt is second on the squad with 12.1, and Jasmine Hardy is hot on her heels with 10.6.
• In addition to leading the Beach in scoring, King also leads the team with 75 assists. She tallied a new career-high nine in the final game of the series against UC Santa Barbara. King also contributes 3.2 rebounds per game, 42 steals, and four blocks.
• Hunt leads the squad with 32 made three-point field goals. She has now amassed 138 three-point field goals in her career to rank fifth all-time at Long Beach State.
• Hardy is shooting 48.1 percent from the field and has made 40-of-46 free throws for an 87.0 percent clip from the line to lead the conference. Additionally, she contributes 5.8 rebounds per game to go along with 21 steals, 11 assists, and four blocks.
• Kristyna Jeskeova has been on point for the Beach as she leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game and 16 blocks. Additionally, Jeskeova averages 4.3 points per game to go along with a team-best 45 steals, and 23 assists.
• As a team, Long Beach State is shooting 40.2 percent from the field and averaging 64.5 points per game. The Beach has held their opponents to 60.3 points per game on 41.1 percent shooting.
• The Beach still remain a strong defensive team as Long Beach State leads the Big West with 11.5 steals per game, while forcing opponents in to 18.1 turnovers per game. LBSU's steals per game average leads the Big West and ranks 11th in the nation.

Scouting Cal Poly
• Cal Poly comes into the Big West Tournament as the No. 6 seed after having closed out the regular season with a 12-10 overall record and an 8-8 league mark.
• The Mustangs defeated the Beach twice during the regular season in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on Feb. 19 and 20. 
• Sierra Campisano and Abbey Ellis were both selected for Big West All-Conference First Team honors and are the Mustangs' lone representatives.
• The duo both lead the Mustangs in scoring with 15.5 points per game, while Campisano also leads the squad with 8.6 rebounds per game and 25 blocks.
• Ellis, meanwhile, sets the standard for the squad with 54 assists and 58 steals this season.
• Overall, Cal Poly is averaging 61.9 points per game, while shooting 40.1 percent from the field.  
• The Mustangs' defense has allowed opponents to average 63.1 points per game on 39.4 shooting.
• As a team, Cal Poly is averaging 39.0 rebounds per game for a 5.3 rebounding margin.
• The Mustangs also average 14.0 assists per game, 8.1 steals per game, and 2.3 blocks per game.

The Series: The Beach vs. The Mustangs
Long Beach State and Cal Poly will meet for the 75th time in program history and the Beach leads the all-time series 47-27. Cal Poly swept the regular season series this year defeating the Beach 55-44 on Feb. 19, before winning on a buzzer beater, 45-42, on Feb. 20. However, when playing in the Big West Tournament, LBSU holds a 7-1 record against Cal Poly.

Defensively Strong
The Beach's defense has been well-established as LBSU has lead the Big West in steals multiple times over the last several seasons. That continues to hold true as Long Beach State's average of 11.5 steals per game are tops in the league once again. Additionally, the Beach rank 11th in the nation in steals per game. Leading the way for the Beach in steals is Kristyna Jeskeova who has amassed 45 steals thus far. Jeskeova leads a quartet of Beach players who rank in the top 10 in the Big West in steals per game as Jeskeova is third (2.3 steals per game), while Justna King is fifth with 2.1 steals per game, Ma'Qhi Berry is sixth with 2.0, and Naomi Hunt is tied for 10th with 1.7.

King is Queen
Junior guard Justina King, a 2021 First Team All-Big West Conference selection, is the Beach's leading scorer with 13.7 points per game. She also leads Long Beach State with 75 assists. When playing against UC Santa Barbara, King averaged a whopping 7.5 assists per game as she tallied six helpers on Friday, then came back on Saturday and dished out a career-high nine. On the year, she averages 3.8 assists per game which is good for seventh in league stats. A two-time All-Big West Defensive Team selection, King also contributes 3.2 rebounds per game, 42 steals, and four blocks.

Hardy Makes it Look Easy
Junior Jasmine Hardy turned in a career-performance against Hawaii as the Santa Clarita, Calif., native poured in a career-best 24 points to go along with nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. She connected on 8-of-12 field goals for a 66.7 field goal percentage, and was 3-for-4 from long distance. With each passing game, Hardy has continued to flourish. She is currently averaging 10.6 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, while having racked up 21 steals, 11 assists, and four blocks.

Czech Her Out
Kristyna Jeskeova, who hails from Jablonec Nad Nisou, Czech Republic has seemed to settle into her role cleaning up the glass. Jeskeova has led the Beach in rebounding in 11 games thus far and has reached double-figures in seven games. Jeskeova has recorded two double-doubles on the year and leads the squad with 45 steals to average 2.3 per game, which is good for third in the conference. She also averages 4.3 points per game while leading the team with 16 blocks. Her 0.8 blocks per game rank her sixth in the Big West.

Berry Good
The versatile Ma'Qhi Berry has been a key component for the Beach as she has consistently contributed on both sides of the ball in each game. Her defensive efforts were recognized with a nod to the Big West All-Defensive Team. Berry is averaging 9.1 points per game with 3.1 rebounds per game. She has also totaled 49 assists and 36 steals. Her 2.0 steals per game rank her sixth in the Big West. Most recently, Berry turned in back-to-back double-figure showings against Hawaii as she tallied 16 points on Friday, before registering 12 on Saturday. Additionally, Berry totaled 13 rebounds with six in the first game against Hawaii and a season-high seven boards in the second contest.

In the Hunt
Naomi Hunt is the Beach's leader in made three-pointers as she has amassed 32 thus far and has now accumulated 138 made threes in her career to take sole possession of fifth place all-time at Long Beach State. Although she is known for her sharp shooting from long distance, Hunt has also contributed in many other ways. In addition to averaging 12.1 points per game, Hunt also averages 4.0 rebounds per game, while registering 23 assists, 28 steals, and two blocks this season. Most recently, Hunt poured in 21 points in back-to-back games at UC Irvine while shooting a whopping 72.7 percent from the field (16-for-22).

She's Got it Down Pat
Freshman guard Patricia Chung was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team after kicking off her rookie campaign averaging 6.9 points per game to go along with 2.8 rebounds per game. She has tallied 20 assists and 14 steals this season as she has played in all 20 games and earned three starts thus far.

Should Long Beach State advance to the Big West Conference Tournament Semifinals, the Beach will play the winner of the No. 2 UC Irvine-No. 7 UC Santa Barbara game on Friday, March 12 at 3 p.m.
