Women's Hoops Set to Take on UC Riverside at Home, Hawaii on the Road
After having won its last three games, Long Beach State hosts UC Riverside in a Thursday evening contest at 7 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid to close out the month of January. The Beach will then fly to Hawaii to take on the Rainbow Wahine on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 8:30 p.m. (PT) at the Stan Sheriff Center.

About the Beach
• Long Beach State has won its last three games to bring its overall record to 9-10. The Beach are 4-2 in the Big West and sit in third place in the conference standings behind UC Davis (4-1) and CSUN (4-1).
• LBSU used strong defensive performances last week to defeat Hawaii and UC Irvine.
• The Beach are averaging 59.7 points per game and are shooting 37.9 percent from the field. 
• As a team, Long Beach State is averaging 31.7 rebounds per game to go along with 11.2 assists per game, 10.4 steals per game, and 2.2 blocks per game.
• LBSU is second in the league in steals with 198 to average 10.4 per game, while leading the Big West in turnover margin (+6.4).
• In conference games, Long Beach State is shooting a league-leading 78.2 percent from the line as the Beach are led by Jasmine Hardy's perfect 1.000 (16-for-16) free throw percentage. The sophomore went 12-for-12 from the charity stripe against Hawaii to set a new career-high for herself with 18 points.
• Junior guard Shanaijah Davison leads the team with 14.1 points per game, while sophomore Justina King contributes 12.6 points per game, and redshirt sophomore Ma'Qhi Berry adds 9.4 points per game.
• Davison moved into 21st all time at Long Beach State, passing Penny Moore, with 1,087 career points halfway through her junior season.
Cydnee Kinslow is the team's leading rebounder with 6.2 boards per game. She has racked up four double-figure rebounding games so far and has led the squad in boards on 10 occasions. 
Ma'Qhi Berry leads the Beach with 46 steals to average 2.4 per game which is tops in the Big West. She leads a trio of LBSU players who rank in the top 15 in the league.
• King is the Beach's leader in assists with 59 to average 3.3 assists per game to rank in the top 10 in the Big West.
Lauren Green is the team's leader in blocks as the sophomore forward has put up 11 on the year so far, while Kinslow and Jasmine Hardy right behind her with eight and seven, respectively.
• Long Beach State has officially changed the nickname for all sports other than baseball to Beach with the NCAA. Please do not refer to LBSU basketball as the 49ers.

Scouting UC Riverside
UC Riverside is 6-13 on the season and 2-3 in the Big West Conference. The Highlanders have lost their last two contests to Cal Poly (75-70) and Hawaii (65-59) as they look to get back on the winning track.

The Highlanders have three players who average double figures in Jannon Otto (15.8 ppg), Marina Ewodo (11.7 ppg), and Keilanei Cooper (10.6 ppg). Otto and Ewodo also lead the squad in rebounding with 7.4 and 7.3 rebounds per game, respectively. Additionally, Otto has dished out a team-leading 40 assists, while Ewodo leads the Highlanders in blocks with 28. Cooper, along with Ewodo, led UC Riverside in steals with 17 each.

As a team, UCR averages 58.3 points per game, while shooting 38.7 percent from the field. The Highlanders outrebound their opponents 39.8-37.3 boards per game.

The Series: The Beach vs. The Highlanders
UC Riverside and Long Beach State will meet for the 44th time in program history and the Highlanders hold a slight edge in the all-time series over the Beach, leading 23-20. LBSU and UCR met three times last season. The two teams split the regular season with Long Beach State defeating UC Riverside, 63-45, in Riverside, and the Highlanders knocking off the Beach, 73-59, in Long Beach. The two teams last met in the Big West Conference quarterfinals as the Highlanders defeated the Beach, 67-50, to end Long Beach State's season.

Scouting Hawai'i
Hawaii brings a 9-10 overall record into the week and holds a 3-3 mark in Big West Conference action. Last week, the Rainbow Wahine lost a 62-55 contest to Long Beach State, before defeating UC Riverside, 65-59, on the road.

Julissa Tago is Hawaii's leading scorer as she averages 13.1 points per game to go along with 3.5 rebounds per game, 38 assists, four blocks, and five steals. Behind Tago is Amy Atwell whose 10.4 points per game are good for second on the squad.

The Rainbow Wahine are led by Myrrah Joseph and Atwell on boards. Joseph leads the team with 82 total rebounds (4.8 rpg), while Atwell leads the squad with 5.0 rebounds per game after totaling 80 boards on the year.

Nae Nae Calhoun has dished out a team-best 61 assists this season, while Lauren Rewers has posted 13 blocks on the year to set the tone for the Rainbow Wahine.

The Series: The Beach vs. The Rainbow Wahine
In a series that dates back to 1986, the all-time series between Long Beach State and Hawaii is tied at 20-20. The two teams met just last week and Long Beach State emerged victorious with a 62-55 win at the Walter Pyramid.

Offensive Output
The Beach are averaging nearly 60 points per game and are led offensively by Shanaijah Davison (14.1 ppg), Justina King (12.6 ppg), and Ma'Qhi Berry (9.4 ppg). The trio have contributed to 60 percent of Long Beach State's points this season with each player having at least one 20-plus point game this season. King leads the way with four 20-plus point performances, while Davison has racked up three, and Berry has turned in two. 

Defensively Strong
LBSU has been defensively sound this season as the Beach are second in the Big West in steals with 198 to average 10.4 per game. LBSU has forced nearly 400 turnovers (20.8 per game) as the team boasts a turnover margin of +6.4 to lead the conference. Leading the Beach defensive efforts is Ma'Qhi Berry who leads the Big West in steals with 46 to average 2.4 per game. The Beach have three players rank in the top 15 in steals per game as Justina King (1.7 spg) and Shanaijah Davison (1.3 spg) are ranked sixth and 13th, respectively.

A Grand Time
Junior guard Shanaijah Davison became the 26th LBSU women's basketball player to record 1,000 points in her career. Davison reached the milestone when she recorded 19 points in a 72-69 victory over Cal Poly to open Big West Conference action. She has now amassed 1,087 points in her career to rank 21st all-time, passing LBSU all-time great Penny Moore.

Cleaning up the Glass
Senior forward Cydnee Kinslow is leading the rebounding charge for Long Beach State. She has grabbed double-digit boards in four of the Beach's games so far to average 6.2 rebounds per game to rank in the top 10 in the Big West. The Oakley, Calif., native has done a solid job cleaning up the glass as she collected 11 rebounds at California Baptist in the season opener, then turned around and registered 11 boards at then-No. 11 UCLA. She set a new career-high with 12 rebounds against Utah State en route to a double-double as she added 13 points. Kinslow notched her second double-double of the season at Cal State Fullerton when she racked up a career-high 16 points to go along with a team-leading 10 boards.

King is Queen
Sophomore guard Justina King has dished out 62 assists this season to set the pace for LBSU. Her 3.3 assists per game rank her in the top 10 in the Big West. Additionally, King is second on the team with 12.6 points per game which is good for 13th in the conference. 

Berry Good
Redshirt sophomore Ma'Qhi Berry is averaging 9.4 points per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds per game, while adding a team-leading 46 steals, and 49 assists. She racked up a career-high 24 points against Cal Poly in the Big West Conference opener.  

Green Machines
Long Beach State's Lauren Green and Aaryon Green are not related, but both give the Beach solid play when on the court. Lauren Green is a sophomore forward from Tucson, Ariz., while Aaryon Green is a redshirt senior out of Rialto, Calif. Lauren has started in 12-of-19 games so far and leads the team with 11 blocks, while adding 4.2 rebounds per game, 3.9 points per game, and 18 steals. Meanwhile, Aaryon has earned 12 starts as well and has registered 3.8 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 19 steals, 10 assists, and six blocks.

Hardy Makes it Look Easy
Since starting Big West action at the beginning of the month, Jasmine Hardy has been a perfect free throw shooter knocking down 16-of-16 free throws. The sophomore set a new career-high for herself last week when she went 12-for-12 from the line against Hawaii. She finished the game as the Beach's leading scorer with 18 points as LBSU defeated Hawaii 62-55.
