The Dirtbags had their highest hit total of the weekend at rivals Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon, but couldn’t push enough runs across in a 6-1 loss in the series finale with the Titans. Riki DeSa and Victor Carlino each had two hits for Long Beach State as the Dirtbags had nine hits in the loss.

FULLERTON, Calif. – Playing its final road game of the season, Long Beach State (11-41, 5-16 Big West) suffered a 6-1 loss against rivals Cal State Fullerton (25-25, 11-10 Big West) in Saturday's series finale at Goodwin Field.

Juniors Riki DeSa and Victor Carlino each had a pair of singles to lead the way for the Dirtbags offense, as seven different players collected a hit for Long Beach State. The Dirtbags batters didn't draw any walks, however, and stranded seven men on base. LBSU was 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position while the Titans were 3-for-7 (.429) in those situations.

After falling behind 5-0, the Dirtbags put up their first run of the day in the top of the sixth. Brooks Stotler led off the inning with a single, was moved to third base on a single by Jacob Hughey and scored on a sac fly from Laine Huffman.

Zak Baayoun got the start for the Dirtbags and cruised through the first three innings before running into trouble. He allowed his first hit of the afternoon to start the fourth inning, when the Titans struck for four runs on three hits and two walks. Fullerton then added a fifth run in the next inning thanks to a leadoff triple.

Baayoun lasted 6.2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Junior Dylan Spacke entered in the seventh inning and collected the final four outs for the Dirtbags in relief.

LBSU will play its final series of the year next weekend, Thursday-Saturday against Hawai'i. All three games are set for a 6 p.m. start on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field, including Senior Night on May 25 in the season finale.
