SEATTLE –
The Long Beach State women's basketball team tried to erase a 15-point deficit and managed to make it a two-possession game in the fourth quarter, but came up short against Seattle in a 66-54 setback.

Despite outshooting Seattle (4-6) 40.4 percent to 37.7 percent, Long Beach State (3-6) turned the ball over 18 times, which led to 19 points by the Redhawks. Seattle also outrebounded LSBU 49-30 and held the advantage on offensive boards 20-8, while capitalizing on second-chance points (17-4).

Redshirt sophomore Ma'Qhi Berry led the Beach with 15 points and nine rebounds, just missing a double-double. She also collected four steals, to lead the team, along with Justina King who added four swipes. Berry's solid game also included three assists and one block.

King and Shanaijah Davison each contributed nine points, while Jasmine Hardy added eight, and Lauren Green registered seven. King also led the squad with six assists.

While the Beach had several solid contributors in the game, Seattle did as well. The Redhawks' Courtney Murphy led a quartet of double-figure scorers as she tallied 19 points. Kamira Sanders (14 points), Olivia Crawford (11 points), and Joana Alves (10 points) rounded out the Redhawaks' double-figure scorers. Chinwe Ezeonu led the team with 10 rebounds, while Sanders added eight assists.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half as LBSU shot 25 percent (7-for-28), while Seattle shot 26.3 percent (9-for-35) from the field. The difference was made from long distance as the Beach made just one trey thanks to Berry, while the Redhawks knocked down four, with three coming from Murphy. Despite forcing Seattle into 12 turnovers in the first half, Long Beach State committed 10 turnovers of its own as the Beach found themselves down, 23-16, at halftime.

LBSU held Seattle scoreless for more than two minutes coming out of the break as the Beach cut the Redhawks' lead down to four (29-25) at the media timeout at 4:31. However, Seattle went on an 8-0 run to open up a 15-point lead (42-27) as Murphy tallied all eight points for the Redhawks in that run before hitting a long jumper at the buzzer to give Seattle a 44-30 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Beach tallied six-straight points to cut the Redhawks' lead to single-digits (46-37) with 8:01 left in the game before whittling the host's lead down to six (47-41) at 6:40. Just when things started looking like they were going Long Beach State's way, Seattle pushed its lead back up to double-figures (51-41) on a jumper by Crawford. From there, the Redhawks controlled the game, leading by as many as 15 (66-51), before taking the contest by a score of 66-54.

With the loss, Long Beach State's longest road swing of the season comes to an end as the Beach head back home to host No. 3 Oregon on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid.
