The Beach force the Ducks into 23 turnovers in the setback

LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The Long Beach State women's basketball team dropped an 81-45 decision to No. 3 Oregon on Saturday afternoon at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach (3-7) shot 34 percent (18-for-53) from the field and forced the Ducks (8-1) into 23 turnovers, but Oregon shot nearly 60 percent (34-for-57) from the field and knocked down 10 threes to earn the victory.

LBSU had three double-figure scorers in Jasmine Hardy (11 points), Ma'Qhi Berry (10 points), and Shanaijah Davison (10 points), while Aaryon Green led the team with six rebounds. Davison added four assists, while Hardy and Berry each grabbed three steals.

Meanwhile, Oregon was led by Sabrina Ionescu's 21 points and 12 rebounds. She also added seven assists and three steals in the game. Also reaching double-figures for the Ducks was Jaz Shelley who finished with 17 points.

Berry scored the first points on the game on a driving layup to give LBSU its only lead of the game before Oregon quickly jumped out in front 7-2. The game started out close as Davison made it a one-point game (11-10) with a layup at 5:06. However, after that Beach layup, Oregon would close the first quarter on a 20-2 run to take a 31-12 lead as the Ducks held the advantage the rest of the way.

LBSU's strongest showing came in the second quarter as the Beach forced three-straight turnovers and went on a 7-0 run to cut the Ducks lead in half (44-22) at 2:51. The Beach closed out the first half on an 11-2 run as Long Beach State forced Oregon into four turnovers in the final 4:48 as heading into halftime down, 46-26.

The second half belonged to Oregon as Long Beach State was outscored 35-19 in the final 20 minutes of action. The Ducks extended their lead up to 42 (81-39) with just 2:18 remaining in the game, before defeating the Beach, 81-45, after back-to-back threes by Hardy and Davison.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 18 when the Beach host Air Force at 7 p.m. inside the Walter Pyramid.
