Men’s Water Polo Prepares for Three Games at Inland Empire Classic

No. 6 Long Beach State will play three times on Saturday in La Verne, Calif. at the Inland Empire Classic, facing Whittier College (11:40 a.m.), La Verne (2:20 p.m.), and Chapman (5 p.m.)
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- After a 3-1 weekend in San Diego, Long Beach State heads back on the road this Saturday for a trio of matches at the Inland Empire Classic in La Verne, Calif. LBSU will open play at 11:40 a.m. against Whittier College, before facing the University of La Verne at 2:20 p.m. The final match of the day is a rematch with Chapman at 5 p.m. Long Beach already defeated the Panthers, 11-8, in the second matchup of the season.
History will be on Long Beach's side this weekend, as LBSU has never lost against any of the three opponents on Saturday's schedule, going a combined 18-0 all-time.
Through the first four games of the season, Chandler Kaltenbach leads Long Beach State with nine goals scored, including a four-goal performance against Cal Baptist and a hat trick vs. UC Santa Barbara. Freshman Johnathan Wong and junior Austin Stewart are tied for second on the team with seven goals on the season. In the previous meeting with Chapman, senior Austin Stevenson scored a first-quarter hat trick to get Long Beach out to a great start in the win.
Long Beach State is one of four teams that will only be competing during the Saturday portion of the event. The Beach will be playing all three games at the Las Flores Park Pool in La Verne, Calif. All games at the Inland Empire Classic will be streamed online, and live stats are available through The Fosh.
