FIRST SERVE
Long Beach State hits the road for the first time to play in a pair of tournaments in the Bay Area.

The action begins Thursday at the University of San Francisco's Battle at the Bay when LBSU faces Portland State at 2 p.m.

The Beach move to Santa Clara's Mission Classic on Friday when Long Beach State plays the host Broncos at 6 p.m.

The week concludes back in San Francisco when LBSU takes on the host Dons at Noon.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Portland State went 0-3 on opening weekend at Air Force's Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic.

Alivia Eikenberg leads the Vikings with 37 kills and 40.5 points. She is hitting .286 with 15 digs and six blocks. Amber Walker is the team's leading hitting at .321. She has 22 kills and five blocks.

This is the 12th time Long Beach State and Portland State are playing women's volleyball with LBSU leading the all-time series 8-3.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS
Santa Clara lost in five at Notre Dame before dropping a straight sets decision to Villanova at Notre Dame's Catholic Challenge on opening weekend. 

Cate Shanahan has put up a team-best 25 kills for Santa Clara. Layla Truitt and Morgan Hayes have both posted 19 kills while Tia Kapihe has charted 17 kills as a part of a balanced offensive attack.

Friday's match is the 10th time that LBSU and SCU are playing volleyball with the Beach leading the all-time series 5-4.

SCOUTING THE DONS
San Francisco lost both of their matches at the University of California Tournament on opening weekend.

The Dons were limited to an .067 hitting percentage against San Diego State and California. Two players; Hannah Taylor (15) and Anica Bobic (11) reached double-digits in kills during the tournament.

Long Beach State has defeated San Francisco in each of the previous six meeting between the two teams.


KING NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Long Beach State's Logan King was named the Big West Freshman Volleyball Player of the Week on Sept. 1.

King paced the Beach to a 1-1 record during the opening week of competition against No. 6 Stanford and Oregon State. In the season opener versus the Cardinal, King recorded 13 kills, nine digs, two service aces, and two assists in a 3-1 loss.

King led LBSU to a sweep of Oregon State on Sunday night. She posted 17 kills on .419 hitting while adding four digs, two block assists, and an ace. The 6-2 opposite tallied 17 kills, seven digs, and five blocks against UCLA on Sept. 1.

King was selected as one of 12 players on the Volleyball Canada Women's U21 National Team, competing at the U21 NORCECA Pan Am Cup (July 20–28 in Costa Rica) and the FIVB U21 World Championship (Aug. 7–17 in Indonesia).

King was named Best Opposite at the U21 Pan Am Cup after helping Canada to the Bronze Medal match. She scored 13 points in the final against Costa Rica and posted 20 points against the Dominican Republic, tied for the second-highest single-match total in the tournament.

At the World Championship, King recorded 105 points (88 kills), ranking 20th among all individual players.


AGI SELECTED TO WNT PROGRAM
Senior Elise Agi participated in the USA Volleyball Women's National Team Open Program in Colorado Springs, Colo. (Feb. 21–23), a key development initiative connecting NCAA programs to the U.S. Women's National Team and NTDP.

The WNT Open Program serves as a pathway for future national team and age-group selections. In 2025, the U.S. Women's National Team competed in the Volleyball Nations League, Pan American Cup, and NORCECA Final Six.

Agi, who redshirted in 2024 due to injury, posted 31 kills, the second most on the team, during opening weekend. Agi has posted the third most digs on the team with 24. She added three service aces.


MAXWELL DIRECTS THE OFFENSE
Madi Maxwell is directing the Long Beach State offense this season. She is fourth in the Big West in assists with 101.The 6-2 sophomore is the LBSU leader with 35 digs. Maxwell is hitting .448 with 15 kills (15-2-29) and has added two service aces.

HOSTING THE BLOCK PARTY
Long Beach State has been effective at the net through three matches. LBSU is tied for second in the Big West with Cal State Fulllerton with 45 blocks. Hawaii leads the league with 48.

Rhiann Sheffie is the team leader with 13. Logan King follows in second with Nieko Thomas in third at nine.


A LOOK BACK
LBSU went 1-2 on opening weekend at home:

  • Lost to No. 6 Stanford, 3-1.
  • Defeated Oregon State, 3-0.
  • Fell to No. 19 UCLA, 3-2.
