The Beach Win The Opening Set 25-18.

LONG BEACH, Calif.—No. 6 Stanford defeated Long Beach State 3-1 in the women's volleyball opener for LBSU Friday night at the Walter Pyramid.

Long Beach State stormed out early and never looked back, taking the opening set 25-18 over the Cardinal. The Beach used a blistering 11-3 run midway through the frame, fueled by three straight kills from Elise Agi and a service ace from Logan King, to grab control at 13-3. Stanford burned two timeouts in the stretch but could not slow the momentum.

Madi Maxwell steadied the attack with 10 assists in the set, setting up Agi and Rhiann Sheffie on the kills. Agi finished the opener with four kills, while Sheffie added a key block during the decisive run. Stanford closed late behind Ipar Kurt and Logan Parks, trimming the deficit to 24-18, but a Maxwell kill off a King pass on two sealed the set for the Beach.

Long Beach State hit efficiently in transition and capitalized on 10 Cardinal attack errors in the frame.

Stanford answered back in the second set, using a late surge behind Elia Rubin's serve to even the match with a 25-19 win over LBSU.

The Beach held a slim 13-12 lead midway through the frame, but the Cardinal flipped momentum as Rubin delivered two aces and combined with Parks for a key block during a 6-0 run that made it 21-18.

Erika Sayer and Kurt added kills down the stretch, and Rubin sealed the set with a well-placed serve that forced two Beach errors. Kurt capped the frame with a kill off a Taylor Yu assist on set point.

King and Sidney Hamaker paced Long Beach early, with King registering an ace and Hamaker adding back-to-back kills, but service errors hampered the Beach in the late stages, evening the match at a set apiece.

Stanford seized control early in the third set and never let up, riding a serving stretch from Rubin to claim a 25-16 win over Long Beach State. Rubin rattled off four aces during a blistering 9-0 Cardinal run that stretched the lead to 16-7, while Lizzy Andrew added a solo block and kill in the surge.

King kept Long Beach in striking distance with three kills late, including one that cut the deficit to 22-15, but Stanford closed it out behind Rubin and Sayer before a Beach service error ended the frame. The Cardinal used balance on the attack with Kurt and Parks combining for key points, while Rubin's serving run proved decisive in pushing Stanford to a 2-1 match lead.

Stanford closed strong in the fourth set, pulling away late to secure a 25-20 win over Long Beach State and clinch the match at Walter Pyramid. The Cardinal (3-1) built an 11-6 lead behind a service ace from Taylor Yu and kills from Ipar Kurt and Elia Rubin. Long Beach (1-3) battled back, trimming the deficit to 18-16 after back-to-back kills from Agi and a Maxwell set that caught Stanford off balance.

But the Cardinal answered with a block from Rubin and Erika Sayer, followed by a Logan Parks kill to restore momentum. Lizzy Andrew delivered the dagger with a kill on set point before a Long Beach attack error sealed the frame.
