Taylor Leads Beach Men to Runner-Up Finish at UC Riverside Invitational

Long Beach State posts a top-10 all-time performance from Levi Taylor and career-best efforts across the lineup as both squads run strong in Riverside.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Levi Taylor delivered one of the fastest performances in program history to power the Long Beach State men's cross country team to a runner-up finish Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Invitational on the Ag Ops Course.
MEN
Taylor clocked the eighth-fastest 8,000-meter time in school history, 24:08.2, placing 13th in a field of 224 competitors.
He was followed closely by Cameron Rhone, who finished 23rd at 24:19.7. Cristian Martinez (50th, 24:42.9), Kyle Reden (60th, 24:50.5), Cameron Gill (63rd, 24:54.0) and Miles Jones (84th, 25:06.9) all ran career-best 8k times. Brandon Day (174th, 26:02.7) rounded out the Beach scoring.
With Taylor leading the charge, Long Beach State totaled 170 points to claim second place. Nationally ranked San Francisco dominated the meet with 33 points, placing four runners in the top nine. Ahmed Faris, competing unattached, was the individual champion in 23:58.5.
WOMEN
The Beach women turned in a strong team effort, placing 18th overall in the 6,000-meter invitational race with 437 points.
Marikay Schwab paced the squad with a 55th-place finish in 21:23.2. Junior Jadyn Palaschuk followed in 84th with a career-best 21:39.4. Alyssa Tapanes (103rd, 21:49.8), Darcy Ray (109th, 21:51.3) and Brooke Willoughby (122nd, 21:57.9, also a career best) completed the scoring five.
Also competing were Sharice Laygo (134th), Nataly Toledo (137th), Natasha King (201st) and Elisa Rodriguez (207th). San Francisco, led by individual champion Jess Spilsbury (20:19.0), captured the team title with 45 points.

Long Beach State returns to action on Oct. 18, competing at both the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale and the Highlander Invitational in Riverside.
