Taylor’s Runner-Up Leads Beach Men To First Team Title Since 2015

Tapanes paces women to eighth at Santa Clara meet

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Long Beach State took home its first men's cross country team title since the 2015 Highlander Invitational Saturday morning as the Beach won the Bronco Invitational.
 
The Long Beach State placed all seven runners in the top 85 to outpace 18 competing schools. Junior Levi Taylor led the way with a runner-up finish, clocking 23 minutes, 48.72 seconds over the 8-kilometer course, just five seconds behind the individual champion from UC Santa Barbara. Senior Cristian Martinez followed in 10th place with a time of 24:19.76, while junior Cameron Rhone was 21st in 24:30.61 and junior Cameron Gill finished 24th in 24:33.21.

Freshman Miles Jones rounded out the scoring lineup with a 38th-place effort in 24:50.22, helping the Beach secure the title with 65 total points. Senior Kyle Reden placed 65th in 25:14.24, and junior Brandon Day added valuable depth with an 84th-place finish in 25:36.25.

Long Beach State edged Southern Utah (69) and UC Santa Barbara (76) for the top spot.

WOMEN
The Beach women placed eighth overall, led by junior Alyssa Tapanes, who finished 30th in a career-best 6K time of 21:30.62.
 
Long Beach State totaled 189 points behind a balanced effort that saw five runners finish in the top 60. Jadyn Palaschuk clocked 21:39.73 for 35th, senior Marikay Schwab followed in 37th (21:40.13), and senior Nataly Toledo crossed in 52nd (21:56.14).
 
Freshman Darcy Ray completed the scoring in 70th (22:12.66), while sophomore Brooke Willoughby (22:00.75) and freshman Sharice Laygo (22:26.07) added depth to the Beach lineup.
 
UC Santa Barbara captured the team title with 69 points, while Santa Clara's Milaina Almonte won the individual crown in 20:06.51.
 
UP NEXT
The Beach will head to the Big West Championships on Oct. 31 at Kapi'olani Park in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
