Long Beach State has had a strong run-up into the league championship, held this year in Hawai’i.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Cross Country will head into their biggest meet of the year so far, competing at the Big West Championships on Halloween.
The Men's race is scheduled to be held at 10:30 a.m., while the women's race will follow with an 11:30 a.m. start. Both races will be held at the Queen Kapi'olani Regional Park in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Results will be made available as they happen at https://finishedresults.trackscoreboard.com/meets/13402/events.
The Beach comes into the championship on a high, as the men's team won their first meet in 10 years, claiming the championship at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara on October 18. Junior Levi Taylor continues to impress, coming in second place in that race to lead Long Beach State with an 8K time of 23:48.7, the third-fastest mark in program history. Senior Cristian Martinez placed 10th overall earning six points while setting a PR of 24:19.7 while junior Cameron Rhone was 21st overall. Cameron Gill and freshman Miles Jones rounded out the scoring as the Beach finished in front of Southern Utah and UC Santa Barbra in the top three.
That came after two strong finishes earlier in the year, as the Long Beach State men placed third overall at the Waves Invite before taking fifth at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Long Beach State's Women placed second overall at the Waves Invite to start the year, as Marikay Schwab, Jadyn Palaschuk and Darcy Ray all finished in the Top 10 to kick off the year. Schwab again led Long Beach State at the UC Riverside Invitational, while Alyssa Tapanes was the top finisher the last time out for the Beach, placing 30th overall with a time of 21:30.6 in the 6K from Sunnyvale.
Following the Big West Championships, both teams are set to compete at the NCAA West Regional, which will be held on November 14 in Sacramento.
