SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Oregon State is ranked seventh in this week's D1Baseball.com Top 25.  The Beavers are ninth in the Perfect Game Top 25, 10th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, 10th in the USBWA Top 25, and 11th in the Baseball America Top 25.

Oregon State improved to 38-12-1 Tuesday night when the Beavers defeated Portland 5-3.

Oregon State's catcher, Wilson Weber was named the NCBWA Dick Howser National Player of the Week on Mar. 13. Weber finished with week, hitting .471 (8/17),  had a .550 on-base percentage and 1.176 slugging percentage, helping lead the Beavers to a 3-0-1 week at Hawaii and Iowa. He recorded four home runs, five runs scored and three walks, while driving in 12 runs.

Aiva Arquette leads the team in hitting (.344), home runs (17), and RBI (59). Gavin Turley has hit 15 home runs and driven in 56 runs.

The game one probable starter is Eric Segura Segura is making his fourth start in 14 appearances. He is 7-1 with a 4.57 ERA. He has struck out 63 in 45.1 innings.

Friday's probable starter is Dax Whitney. Whitney has started every weekend (14) for the Beavers this season. He is 4-3 with 83 strikeouts in 29 innings and has a 4.29 ERA.

Saturday's probable starter is Ethan Kleinschmit. Like Whitney, he has started the 13 previous weekends for Oregon State. The lefty is 6-3 with a 4.18 ERA, striking out 82 in a team-high 66.2 innings.

An independent, this weekend's series against the Dirtbags will mark the 17th, 18th, and 19th games that the Beavers are playing against Big West competition. Oregon State is 13-3 against the Big West this season.

BIG WEST TOURNAMENT POSSIBILITIES
For the first time since 1998, the Big West will hold a postseason championship from May 21 to 25, featuring a five-team format.

The Dirtbags have completed Big West league play with a 15-15 record. The remaining 10 teams play their final conference games May 15-17.

UC Santa Barbara, Hawai'i, and UC San Diego have won 14 games. The Gauchos host Cal State Bakersfield while the Rainbow Warriors host the Tritons.

With LBSU's playoff fate in the other's hands, UCSB needs to go 0-3 or 1-2 this weekend for it to favor the Dirtbags. If UCSB goes 3-0 or 2-1, LBSU is out of contention, and the UH-UCSD series won't matter.

There are two scenarios where if UCSD goes 2-1, Long Beach State will make the field.
If UCSB is 0-3, UH is 1-2, UCSD is 2-1
UCSD is No. 4 seed - 16 wins
LBSU, UH 2-way tie - 15 wins
Head-to-head:
LBSU 2-1
UH 1-2
LBSU is the No. 5 seed
If UCSB is 1-2, UH is 1-2, and UCSD is 2-1
UCSD is the No. 4 seed with 16 wins
LBSU, UCSB, UH 3-way tie - 15 wins
Head-to-head:
LBSU 4-2
UH 3-3
UCSB 2-4
LBSU is the No. 5 seed

ASHWORTH MOVES TO FOURTH IN CAREER WALKS
With two walks during the UC Davis series, Kyle Ashworth moved to fourth in school history in career walks with 95. Former MLB All-Star Jason Giambi holds the school mark with 116. He leads the team in walks in 2025 with 33 and is fifth in the Big West in the category.

Ashworth is the leading Long Beach State hitter this season. The graduate student is hitting .346 and is on a team-high 11-game hitting streak entering the Oregon State series.

Ashworth is the club leader in runs scored (41), hits (64), doubles (12), triples (2 with three others), total bases (86), and on-base percentage (.467). Ashworth has recorded 20 multiple-hit games in 2025 and nine multiple-RBI games.

He has not committed an error in 110 chances (105 PO-5A).  Ashworth is hitting .393 in league-only play, the fifth-best in conference-only games.

MONTGOMERY LEADS THE PITCHING STAFF
Kellan Montgomery has emerged as the Dirtbags' pitching staff leader this season.

Montgomery is 9-3 after tossing 6.2 innings in Long Beach State's 12-4 victory at UC Riverside on May 9. In this week's NCAA Division I statistical report, Montgomery is fifth in victories, 13th in starts (13), and 54th in complete games.

He was named Big West Pitcher of the Week on April 14. Montgomery retired the final 19 Cal State Bakersfield batters he faced as he tossed a complete game four-hitter as Long Beach State defeated the Roadrunners 3-2 on April 13

Montgomery threw the first Long Beach State complete game since May 12, 2023, when Nico Zeglin blanked UC Santa Barbara 1-0. He struck out eight and walked two. He got 15 ground ball outs to go along with the strikeouts. Montgomery threw 122 pitches, 82 of which were for strikes.

ROBLEZ'S TOP PERFORMANCES
Albert Roblez has turned in several of the season's top Long Beach State pitching performances.

Roblez entered the game against Cal State Bakersfield with one out in the top of the third on April 12 and retired all 20 batters he faced. Roblez struck out a season-high 12 against the 'Runners. He threw 84 pitches, 62 for strikes, improving to 3-0 this season.

At Hawai'i on April 5, Roblez picked up his second win of the season with 5.1 innings of relief. Roblez entered the fourth inning and retired the first 12 batters he faced. He struck out the side in two innings, striking out eight of 10 batters at one point. He walked two and gave up one hit, throwing a season-high 94 pitches, 58 for strikes.

Roblez was the hard-luck loser in LBSU's 15-inning 1-0 loss to UC Davis on May 2. He threw a season-high eight innings in relief of Kellan Montgomery. Roblez allowed three hits, struck out 11, and walked four. Roblez threw 117 pitches, 79 for strikes.

Roblez pitched in two games at UC Riverside, May 9-11. Roblez picked up the save in game two, throwing nine pitches (eight strikes) in a 1-2-3 ninth inning. In the series finale, Roblez earned the win, throwing four innings of one-hit relief of Josh Donegan.
Roblez leads the team in saves (4) and strikeouts (76). At 4-3, he is third on the team in victories. Opponents are hitting .168 against him in 2025.

In this week's NCAA Division I statistical report, Roblez is fifth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.24), 25th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.07), 47th in WHIP (1.06), 48th in earned run average (2.86), 76th in strikeouts, and 133rd in saves.

GEBB IN THE TOP 10 IN APPEARANCES
Sophomore transfer Tyler Gebb is fifth in NCAA Division I in appearances as of Mar. 13.

Gebb has seen action in 27 of the 50 Long Beach State games this season. Gebb has struck out 24 in 32.1 innings with one save. In 2025, opponents are batting .284 against him.

GEISS SETTLES INTO THE ROTATION
Sophomore Owen Geiss has settled into the weekend rotation after pitching in various roles early in 2025. After spot-starting, pitching in long relief, and closing for a game, Geiss became a weekend starter on March 15 against Cal Poly.

He reset his career-high when he threw seven innings against UC Santa Barbara on March 30. He struck out four and limited the Gauchos to four hits while only giving up one run. He reset his career-high with 114 pitches,

He tied his previous career-high when he threw 6.2 innings in the 10-0 victory at UC San Diego on March 23. Geiss limited the Tritons to six hits, struck out five, and walked two. He threw a then career-high 112 pitches, 65 for strikes.

Geiss again reset his career-high with a 7.2 effort as he picked up his sixth win on May 10 at UC Riverside (6-3). He reset his career-highs in strikeouts (9) and pitches (132, 85 for strikes) against the Highlanders.

Entering this weekend, Geiss is second on the team in victories (6-7). He has pitched 66 innings, the second most on the club. His 44 strikeouts are the third most on the team.

CHAMPAGNE STREAK
Since May 27, 2023, Long Beach State centerfielder Alex Champagne has started 106 consecutive games, playing 963.1 straight innings.

He was the only Dirtbags player to appear and start all 55 games in 2024, playing every inning in center field. Champagne reached base in 20 consecutive games, a club-high, before the streak was halted in game two of the UC Santa Barbara series.

The Arizona State transfer is second in runs (40). He has stolen a team-best 13 stolen bases. He has not committed an error in 117 chances in center in 2025.

BRISENO NAMED TO 2025 WATCH LIST FOR THE BROOKS WALLACE AWARD
Long Beach State's Armando Briseno was named to the 2025 watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award, which was released on April 18 by the College Baseball Foundation.

The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Briseno returned from injury on April 29 at Arizona State. He is third on the team in hitting (.276), home runs (5), and fourth in RBI (32).
