Tennis Closes Regular Season With Black And Blue Rivalry Win

Long Beach State finished the year with a 6-1 win on the road against the ‘Eaters.
IRVINE, Calif. – Playing on the road to finish the regular season, Long Beach State took down UC Irvine 6-1 in the Black and Blue Rivalry.
Long Beach State (13-6, 6-3 Big West) grabbed a doubles point win to start the day. UC Irvine (10-11, 1-7 Big West) took the first point in a 6-3 win in the second flight, but the Beach rallied to take a 1-0 lead after a 7-5 win by Cecilia Costa and Paulina Franco Martinessi in the top flight over Kayla Meraz and Haily Huynh. The Beach then took the point after a 6-4 victory from Diana De Simone and Daria Malaescu against Amanda Perez and Maily Huynh.
Pamela Badillo cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Haily Huynh to get Long Beach State's first singles point. The top of the order then quickly clinched the win for Long Beach State. Costa rolled in a second set to give the Beach a 7-5, 6-0 win against Carolyna Fowler. Jagare was then a 6-4, 7-5 winner in the third flight against Amanda Perez and then De Simone grabbed another win with a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win over Meraz at the top of the lineup.
Yen Nhi Huynh had the day's only win for UC Irvine, a three-set victory over Daria Malaescu while Daisy Carpenter wrapped the day's action with a three-set win over Maily Huynh.
Long Beach State's win Friday sets up a potential rematch with the Anteaters in the Big West Championship; the 'Eaters and Hawai'i play Saturday and unless UCI upsets the Rainbow Wahine the Black and Blue Rivalry will get a second date in 2025 to kick off the Big West Championship. Action from that tournament begins on Wednesday,
