Long Beach State Battles But Falls 4-3 At CSUN

Beach claims three singles wins but can’t overcome doubles deficit
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -- Long Beach State dropped a tightly contested Big West match on the road Friday, falling to CSUN 4-3 at the Matador Tennis Complex.
The difference came early in doubles, where CSUN captured the opening point with wins on courts one (6-3) and two (7-5), putting the Beach in an immediate hole heading into singles play.
Long Beach State responded with three strong singles victories, highlighted by Cecilia Costa at the top of the lineup. Costa battled through a first-set tiebreak and pulled away for a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win to set the tone. Pamela Badillo followed at No. 5, overcoming a second-set setback to secure a 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 result. Thea Jagare added another three-set win with a comeback effort at No. 3, dropping the opening set before dominating the final two for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Despite the push, CSUN secured the remaining singles courts to clinch the match.
Long Beach State now stands at 11-10 overall and 4-4 in Big West play heading into senior day next week. The final Big West match of the season will take place at Rhodes Tennis Center on Saturday, April 18. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
