SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
UC Irvine swept UC Santa Barbara over the weekend to fall out of the national rankings. The Gauchos rebounded Tuesday night as UCSB defeated Saint Mary's 7-2. UC Santa Barbara is 16-7, 4-5 in the Big West.

LeTrey McCollum is UCSB's leading hitter, seventh overall in the Big West at .374. His 34 hits are the seventh-most in the conference. Jack Holman and Jonathan Mendez are tied for fifth in the Big West in home runs with six.

Donovann Jackson has made nine appearances out of the UCSB bullpen, going 4-0 with two saves and a 1.33 ERA. He has struck out 26 in 27 innings.

Calvin Proskey (1-3), Tyler Bremner (2-1), and Jackson Flora (1-2) are the Gauchos' probable starters for the weekend. Flora is tied with four others in the league in strikeouts, with 34, and Bremner is seventh in strikeouts (33).

Long Beach State leads the all-time series against UC Santa Barbara 105-99.

CONFERENCE SHUTOUT
Long Beach State shutout UC San Diego 10-0 on Mar. 23. The result is the first Big West shutout for the Dirtbags on the road since Apr. 7, 2023, when LBSU defeated UC Irvine 9-0. It is also the first league shutout for Long Beach State since May 12, 2023, when Long Beach State defeated UC Santa Barbara 1-0.

BRISENO BASHES
Armando Briseno is bashing the ball through the first nine Big West games. In league-only competition, the junior shortstop is hitting .471 (16-34). He has posted a .618 slugging and .538 on-base percentage in Big West games through three weeks.

Briseno leads the team in RBI with 17. He is tied for the club-best in home runs (3) with Dylan Lina and Nathan Cadena. His .488 slugging tops the Dirtbags, and his on-base percentage is .423.

CHAMPAGNE STREAK
Returning to May 27, 2023, Long Beach State centerfield Alex Champagne has started 81 consecutive games, playing 707.2 consecutive innings. He was the only Dirtbags player to appear and start all 55 games in 2024, playing every inning in center field.

Entering this week, Champagne has reached base in 20 consecutive games. Champagne has been hitting .529 over the past five games (9-for-17), scoring eight runs.

Champagne leads Long Beach State in batting at .345, on-base percentage (.462), runs scored with 24, and stolen bases (7). He has not committed an error in 49 chances in center in 2025.

GEISS' PERFORMANCE
Sophomore Owen Geiss tied his career-high when he threw 6.2 innings in the 10-0 victory at UC San Diego on Mar. 23. Geiss limited the Tritons to six hits, struck out five, and walked two. He threw a career-high 112 pitches, 65 for strikes.
