Gregory Second; Raud-Gumiel Fourth After Day 1 Of Texas Relays Multis

Orona sits in sixth, Turner 16th in decathlon; Hurley 10th in heptathlon
AUSTIN, Texas—Long Beach State is represented in the top four in both multi-events began Wednesday at the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist.
DECATHLON
Aidan Turner won the opening 100m, running a career-best time of 10.68 (933). Ryan Gregory was third, running a season-best 10.79 (908). Milo Orona's 11.09 was a career-best 100m time, earning him 841 points in a 14th-place performance.
Gregory was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 23-2 (828). Turner finished third after going 3-0 3/4 (821). Orona posted a season-best 22-3 1/2 in seventh (764).
Turner threw the shot 42-7 1/2 to score 667 points, which placed him seventh. Orona's 41-2 1/4 was worth 640 points and resulted in a 10th-place finish. Gregory's 38-4 3/4 earned him 588 points and placed him 16th overall.
Orona cleared a career-high 6-6 in the high jump to finish second and score 785 points. Gregory went 6-4 3/4 to tie for fourth with another competitor for 758 points. Turner's 5-10 3/4 was good enough for 627 points.
In the day's final event, the 400m, Gregory was the top LBSU performer as he ran 48.69 to come in sixth. Orona ran a career-best 49.83 to score 822 points in 10th. Turner charted 632 points with his time of 54.18 (19th).
Gregory sits in second place in the competition with 3,948 points. He is 182 behind the leader, North Carolina's Max Staukn-Pickering. Orona is in sixth with a score of 3,852. Turner is 16th (3,680).
HEPTATHLON
Claudine Raud-Gumiel began the day by winning the 100m hurdles at 13.75, which resulted in 1014 points. Jenelle Hurley ran 14.89 in the 100m hurdles to score 856 points during her 13th-place showing.
In the high jump, Hurley finished fourth by clearing 5-6 (830), while Raud-Gumiel placed fifth after going 5-5 (795).
Hurley placed 10th in the shot put with a career-best toss of 35-8 1/2 (587). Raud-Gumiel was 13th after a throw of 33-5 3/4 (543).
Raud-Gumiel wrapped up the day by running a career-best 24.82 in the 200m to finish fourth and score 903 points. Hurley ran 26.30 to place 12th (771).
With four events in the books, Raud-Gumiel sits fourth with 3,255 points. Hurley is 10th with 3,044 points.
The decathlon resumes Thursday morning at 7:45 p.m. PDT with the 110m hurdles, and the heptathlon resumes at 8:15 p.m. PDT with the long jump.
